The Tesco.net email service, which was retained after Tesco’s broadband customers were sold to TalkTalk in 2015 (here), will be closed down for good on 27th June 2018. UK ISP TalkTalk has posted their latest results for Q1-2015 (calendar), which revealed that the provider added +47k broadband subscribers in the quarter to total 4,283,000 (sharply up from +15k added in Q4 2014). But there’s bad news for some of the recent off-net (BT based) broadband customer gains from Virgin Media and Tesco.

A significant country-wide service outage appears to be impacting thousands of customers on Tesco’s broadband service, which is currently in the process of being acquired by TalkTalk following a deal that was signed in January.

As predicted last week TalkTalk has this morning confirmed the acquisition of Tesco’s Blinkbox Movies (video streaming) business, but in a more surprising move they’ve also gobbled the supermarket giants budget fixed line broadband (75,000 subs) and phone (20,000 subs) customers. Apparently the assets have been acquired free of debt and as a single transaction for cash.

Consumers interested in signing up for Tesco’s Broadband and Home Phone service might like to know that the ISP appears to be hiding a Fibre Broadband (up to 38Mbps) package under the hood of their website, which we spotted by accident while conducting one of our database update sweeps.

19th November, 2013 (20 Comments)

Supermarket giant Tesco has started offering free broadband and calls for 12 months when taken alongside Home Phone line rental at £14.90 per month. Previously this promotion was only available to those who also purchased an Internet enabled device (e.g. tablet computer) from one of their stores.

An interesting new study from social media analyst WaveMetrix has taken a look at the United Kingdom’s biggest broadband ISPs to discover which gives the best support via Twitter. Customers of Tesco’s fixed line “unlimited” broadband and phone services may be displeased to learn that they’re about to become the latest to be hit by a price hike. The worst part is that customers have only been given 10 days to decide and those who refuse will have to switch.. at Christmas!
