Sky (Sky Broadband) has today soft launched a new range of devices and a more dynamic approach to distributing TV content, both online and via Satellite, through the launch of their next-generation entertainment and Internet system called Sky Q (available in the UK from early 2016).

Customers of EE’s TV (IPTV) service, which is usually taken alongside their fixed line broadband and phone bundles, should note that the ISP has just added 25 premium channels (Discovery, British Eurosport, Cartoon Network, HISTORY, Sony Movies etc.) as part of a new deal with TVPlayer.

In an effort to clampdown on Internet piracy the BBC has decided to block users of UK Virtual Private Networks (VPN) from being able to view their online iPlayer video streaming content, which has also restricted access for many legitimate users.

New customers of Vodafone’s 4G Red Value, SIM Only or Red + Sharer Bundles will now get up to a year’s free access to the unlimited Netflix Internet Movie and TV streaming service after the mobile operator renewed its partnership, while some cheaper tariffs will continue to get the old 6-months deal.

Sky’s popular broadband-based NOW TV service, which among other things offers live streaming access and catch-up content for some of the media giants top TV channels (e.g. Sky Atlantic, Sky 1, Discovery etc.), is now offering a 30 day free trial of its Sky Movies pass content (£9.99 a month thereafter).

Remember when BT introduced the new premium BTSport TV Pack at the start of this month for an extra £5 (here)? Do you also remember how BT then tried to force that pack onto their existing customers, unless they specifically opted-out? Well Ofcom wasn’t happy and neither were many of BT’s customers.

The Sky News TV channel, specifically its official YouTube based live video stream, was taken down last night following a complaint by FOX News in what appears to be the latest example of overzealous automated copyright linked Internet stupidity. On top of that Fox, which shares its parent company with Sky, also managed to screw up its own stream. Doh.

Online retailer Amazon UK has expanded their existing unlimited TV and Movie streaming service by adding Prime Music at no extra cost, which gives the service a slight edge over rivals like NOW TV and Netflix that tend to focus more exclusively on video streaming.

As expected BT has today revealed the first solid details and price of their new 4K Ultra HD TV package, which claims to include “Europe’s very first live sports Ultra HD channel” (BTSport Ultra HD) and a new 4K capable 1TB YouView (IPTV) set-top-box. But you’ll need a faster than “superfast” broadband speed.

UK ISP TalkTalk has announced that their Plus TV bundle of unlimited broadband, phone (anytime calls), premium TV (YouView) and a free mobile SIM, which is priced at £10 per month and comes with a £75 Love2shop voucher, now also includes 6 months of free HD access to video streaming service Netflix (until 30th July).

Customers of PlusNet who also take the ISPs BTSport TV offer (only available via the Sky Digital TV platform), which gives them access to BTSport channels 1, 2 and ESPN from just £5.99 per month (HD for an extra £1.50 a month), may be unhappy to learn that the price is set to almost double.

Internet giant Google has announced that their massively popular online video streaming service, YouTube, can now stream content using the very latest 8K Full Ultra HD video standard (7680 x 4320 pixels). But at twice the resolution in both directions of 4K it also requires double the broadband speed (i.e. around 50 Megabits per second).

It’s not all about Sport, you see. BT’s YouView (IPTV) based broadband TV service has taken another shot at arch-rival Sky (Sky Broadband) by announcing a new agreement to launch the AMC TV channel in the UK this September 2015, which includes the “exclusive” UK television premiere of “Fear the Walking Dead“.

Netflix UK, the broadband-based unlimited movie and TV video streaming service, has increased the price of their HD quality Standard Plan for new customers by an inflation busting 7.15% from £6.99 to £7.49 per month. But existing customers are safe.. at least for now.
