All new customers who take Fuel Broadband’s 6 months FREE unlimited broadband offer (£5 per month thereafter), which among other things comes with free UK evening and weekend calls, will now also receive a FREE Amazon Fire TV Stick (normally retails for £35) for WiFi video streaming to your televisions HDMI port.

UK ISP BT has today confirmed that customers of their broadband service, which currently benefit from receiving BTSport TV content for free, will in the future have to pay an extra £5 if they also want to watch European football (Champions League etc.). But it will still be free for BT TV subscribers and there’s a 4K TV channel coming too.

Customers of BT’s broadband bundles, most of which have for the past two years been able to benefit from free BTSport TV content, may be displeased to learn that the free ride could soon be coming to an end and some related content will instead cost an additional fee of £5 (still a lot less than non-BT customers pay).

Sky (Sky Broadband) will today cut the price of their increasingly popular unlimited web-based Internet TV and Movie (video streaming) service, NOW TV, to just £1 for the first month of their Entertainment Pass (returning to £6.99 thereafter); only if taken by new customers.

Netflix, the popular Internet movie and TV streaming provider, has just published their latest April 2015 ISP Speed Index update for the United Kingdom and revealed that Virgin Media is still holding the top spot with a score of 3.74Mbps (Megabits per second). But take with the usual pinch of salt.

At present you generally need a stable 25Mbps broadband connection to run a single 4K (Ultra HD 3840 x 2160 resolution) quality Internet video stream via Netflix (although the actual streams usually vary from 12-16Mbps) and some rival services, although the new V-Nova technology is promising to make three 4K streams fit down the same connection.

Customers of Sky Broadband with Sky TV, specifically those who enjoy accessing their TV content on an Android based mobile device via the Sky Go app, have criticised the operator for not updating their app to work properly with the latest Android 5.1 release. But it could be worse; they might be users of Virgin Media’s TV Anywhere service.

Remember last year’s surprising news that EE had finally scrapped their long running “Orange Wednesdays” promotion of free 2-for-1 Pizzas (or dough balls) and Cinema tickets for their broadband and mobile customers (here)? Well there’s now a replacement – a blockbuster film every week for all customers, for just £1.

Customers of BT’s broadband, phone and or TV bundles, which currently receive free access to the operators live BTSport TV channels, may be pleased to learn that their provider has just ensured that the top flight of English club rugby will be shown live on their service until at least the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

Customers of EE’s recently launched TV (IPTV) service, which is best taken alongside their fixed line broadband and phone bundles, may be pleased to know that Sky’s popular online TV streaming product NOW TV has been added to the content roster alongside all the usual catch-up TV and Freeview channels.

Internet providers across the United Kingdom saw a surge in data traffic on Sunday evening as Netflix, the online movie and TV streaming giant, released all 13 episodes of the latest ‘House of Cards‘ series at once. Sunday is always the busiest day of the week for related traffic on TalkTalk, but this one was a record breaker.

10th February, 2015 (33 Comments)

The on-going war between BT and Sky over broadband and TV content took another expensive leap today after both operators splashed a record amount of cash in order to retain their hold over vital Premier League TV football rights for the 2016/17 to 2018/19 seasons.

4th February, 2015 (3 Comments)

The broadband based YouView video-on-demand and catch-up TV (IPTV) service, which is being bundled by a number of ISPs (e.g. BT and TalkTalk) in the United Kingdom and can also be brought separately at retail, has officially branched out into the integrated TV market with Sony’s new 2015 BRAVIA range becoming the first to benefit.

12th January, 2015 (0 Comments)

Budget broadband ISP TalkTalk has predictably followed last year’s similar move by BT (here) and made the popular Netflix Internet TV and Movie streaming service available to owners of their YouView (IPTV) based platform, with those who pre-registered for the service being first in line to receive it on their set-top-box.

8th January, 2015 (3 Comments)

As predicted last week TalkTalk has this morning confirmed the acquisition of Tesco’s Blinkbox Movies (video streaming) business, but in a more surprising move they’ve also gobbled the supermarket giants budget fixed line broadband (75,000 subs) and phone (20,000 subs) customers. Apparently the assets have been acquired free of debt and as a single transaction for cash.

5th January, 2015 (6 Comments)

At least part of Sky’s (Sky Broadband) popular Internet-based NOW TV service, which offers a mix of premium TV, Sport and Movie content (including live channels) delivered via broadband, could vanish from BT and TalkTalk’s TV services unless the native YouView platform can be adapted to support live TV channel streaming.

30th December, 2014 (0 Comments)

Low cost broadband ISP TalkTalk seems keen to build on their existing YouView (IPTV) based TV platform and part of that on-going effort now looks set to include the possible acquisition of Blinkbox from supermarket giant Tesco, which has been suffering from a mountain of financial trouble. Meanwhile Vodafone’s early interest has waned.
