Cable broadband and TV operator Virgin Media UK are for a limited time offering their VIVID 108Mbps ultrafast broadband and phone package at just £29 per month for the first 12 months of service (£47 per month thereafter) to new customers, but this promotion is only available to order until 30th September 2018.

It’s two years since full fibre UK ISP Gigaclear announced that they could deploy their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to the rural village of Crazies Hill in Berkshire (here), which beat Openreach (BT) and Virgin Media to the punch. Sadly the local residents are still waiting.

Cable broadband ISP and TV network Virgin Media has today announced the launch of a new dedicated Ultra High Definition (4K UltraHD) TV channel, which will be exclusively available for Virgin TV Full House and VIP customers with a V6 set-top-box from Monday 17th September 2018 “at no extra cost“.

Internet speed analyst firm SamKnows has conducted an interesting study, which examines the performance differences of major UK broadband ISPs (BT, TalkTalk, Sky Broadband, Virgin Media and Vodafone) when being tasked with downloading PC games from Valve’s popular Steam digital distribution platform.

Cable operator Virgin Media has complemented the expansion of their UK ultrafast broadband ISP and TV network in Scotland today by signing a new 4 year strategic partnership with STV, which among other things will enable them to broadcast STV in HD in all cabled STV regions (Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee) on EPG slot 103.

Cable ISP Virgin Media UK has announced that their £3bn Project Lightning network expansion has now reached an additional 50,000 homes and businesses across the Glasgow City Region in Scotland via their “gigabit-ready” broadband infrastructure (FTTP / HFC DOCSIS) and TV services.

Cable operator Virgin Media UK has announced that 26,000 premises in Burton-on-Trent (East Staffordshire), Dronfield (Derbyshire), Thurmaston (Leicestershire) will be the next to get access to their “gigabit-ready” ultrafast broadband ISP and TV network (we still don’t know when those Gigabit speed will actually arrive).

Cable TV and broadband ISP Virgin Media UK has announced that they’ve settled their legal challenge against Durham County Council (England), which began after the operator objected to the “hefty” fees per metre that the authority wanted to charge for laying new fibre optic cable along grass verges.

Cable ISP Virgin Media UK has today announced that 6,000 premises in Carluke (South Lanarkshire, Scotland) will be next in line to gain access to ultrafast broadband speeds of 362Mbps and premium TV services, which stems from their on-going £3bn Project Lightning network expansion.

Cable broadband ISP and TV operator Virgin Media has today become the latest provider to confirm that customers will soon be hit by an annual price increase on their bills between October and November 2018, although they claim that the average rise is a little “lower than last year” (i.e. 4.5% in 2018 against 4.7% in 2017).

After nearly two years Intel has finally published an advisory and formal CVE entry for a flaw in their Puma 5, 6 and 7 chipsets that resulted in various broadband ISP routers, such as Virgin Media UK’s Hub 3.0 (ARRIS TG2492S/CE), suffering from a mix of latency spikes and a DDoS security vulnerability.

The city of Sunderland in Tyne and Wear is the next to benefit from Virgin Media’s rollout of their cable ultrafast broadband and TV network, which currently covers half of the city and will now be extended to a further 7,000 premises. Separately VM has also updated their Virgin TV Go app with a download feature.

Cable broadband ISP and TV operator Virgin Media has this morning announced the signing of a new long term deal, which will restore all of UKTV’s channels to their platform “as quickly as possible” (this has already begun). The agreement includes five times more on-demand programming than before and there’s more.

The overall boss of cable broadband ISP Virgin Media (Liberty Global) has told investors that their £3bn Project Lightning network expansion, which at the current pace will struggle to complete the target of 4 million UK premises passed by the end of 2019, won’t be ramped up. Meanwhile they do plan to target more MDUs.

The latest quarterly update (calendar Q2 2018) from cable ISP Virgin Media (Liberty Global) has revealed that the operator’s UK network has now reached another 118,000 premises (up from 111K added in Q1), while their broadband subscriber base totals 5,166,500 (up by 30K in Q2, which is flat from 31.2K in Q1).
