Customers of Virgin Media’s Mobile service who have a hyphen “-” in their email address (domain) have been unable to login to their online account pages for nearly two months, which began after the cable ISP made a change that caused their sign-in page to reject related addresses (email addresses act as usernames).

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has today launched the Coppersaurus campaign, which aims to draw attention to the UK’s “prehistoric broadband” and support their court case to end “misleading” uses of “fibre” terminology in ISP adverts (i.e. when it’s used to describe slower hybrid copper and fibre connections).

Cable TV and broadband operator Virgin Media UK is facing somewhat of a double kick in the balls this week. After failing to reach a deal to keep the popular UKTV channels (here), it’s now emerged that ITV are allegedly also threatening to pull their channels from the platform (possibly as early as this weekend).

The national telecoms regulator has today followed yesterday’s Future Telecoms Infrastructure Review (here) by setting out the core regulatory changes that they intend to pursue, which will support the government’s new plan and aim to spread Gigabit capable “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband ISP networks to all by 2033.

The latest Engine Customer Experience Report 2018 has claimed that the UK Broadband & Pay-TV media sector has risen one spot to 8th place for best customer service and experience thanks to a 3% rise, putting it just ahead of the mobile sector and utilities (9th). But overall this is still way down the sector ranking table.

After some initial warnings last week, cable operator Virgin Media has over the weekend confirmed that “unfortunately no agreement has been reached” on the fate of their UKTV channels line-up (10 channels inc. the 5 free-to-air channels, such as Dave), which means that they’ve been pulled as of midnight on 22nd July 2018.

Cable operator Virgin Media has announced that their broadband ISP and TV customers will “soon” be able to keep track of exactly when their technicians (engineers) are due to arrive for an appointment, which will be done via real-time updates on their smartphone, tablet or computer.

Ofcom has just published their latest Q1 2018 UK consumer complaints study, which notes that Sky Broadband attracted the least gripes for fixed line broadband and phone services, while TalkTalk attracted the most complaints for both. Pay TV and Mobile providers are also covered.

Cable ISP Virgin Media UK has today announced that 9,000 homes and businesses in the small town of Stepps (North Lanarkshire, Scotland) will be the next to gain access to their 350Mbps capable ultrafast broadband and TV network, which forms part of their on-going £3bn Project Lightning deployment.

A Censuswide survey of 3,422 home broadband ISP users has found support for Cityfibre’s legal challenge of the current UK advertising rules, which they say “misleadingly” allows so-called hybrid fibre ISPs to promote their services as being “fibre optic” despite using slower metallic cables (e.g. copper).

Cable ISP Virgin Media UK has announced that their 350Mbps ultrafast broadband and cable TV network has now been extended to cover 35,000 premises in Leeds (West Yorkshire, England). Next on their list to benefit is Cleckheaton, Micklefield and Osmondthorpe (plus more of Rothwell) during 2018. Plus some for Scotland.

The latest independent model has estimated that the coverage of fixed “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) ISP networks across the United Kingdom has grown to 95.3% at the end of June 2018 (up from 95.1% in March 2018), while “full fibre” (FTTP/H) networks now reach 3.82% of premises.
