The first six months of 2018 recorded another rise in average fixed home broadband download speeds to 33.29Mbps (7.82Mbps upload) among the top 10 ISPs, which continues to be fuelled by the rising adoption of faster FTTC, FTTP and Cable lines. Average mobile data speeds also hit 18.87Mbps (5.02Mbps upload).

Cable ISP Virgin Media has launched a new range of specially priced broadband packages and bundles that have been designed for students and offer a 30 day contract. For example, the 54Mbps broadband-only service costs £33 a month, which is the same as the non-student package on a 12 month term.
