Comparison site Cable.co.uk has revealed the winners of their annual Broadband Awards 2016, which saw Plusnet scoop more wins across different consumer voted categories than any other ISP. But there were also some wins in different areas for Virgin Media, Sky Broadband, BT and other ISPs.

Consumer magazine Which? has published the outcome from their latest H2 2016 reader survey of broadband ISP satisfaction, which for the 10th time has named Zen Internet the best of the bunch. Sadly the news isn’t so good for TalkTalk, which had the lowest customer satisfaction score of 37%.

The company behind the popular Speedtest.net service, Ookla, has published its annual ‘Speedtest® Market Report‘ for the United Kingdom and revealed that we rank just 30th in the world for average fixed line broadband speeds (Virgin Media is the fastest ISP) and 32nd for Mobile Broadband (EE is top).

Cable and fibre optic provider Virgin Media has announced that some 22,000 additional homes and businesses in Carlisle (Cumbria, England) will be the next to benefit from the on-going £3bn ‘Project Lightning’ expansion of their 300Mbps capable broadband and TV network.

Cable Internet and TV provider Virgin Media (Liberty Global) has published their latest quarterly results (calendar Q3 2016), which saw growth in their broadband base improve to total 4,867,900 customers (up by +59.9K vs +42.7K added in Q2). On top of that around 2 million premises will now benefit from ultrafast FTTP broadband.

Virgin Media has unveiled a new “nationwide agreement” with property developer Bloor Homes, which will push their 300Mbps cable / FTTP broadband and TV network into over 2,000 new homes across 8 urban and rural sites in Manchester, Exeter, Coventry, Leicestershire, Nottingham and Malmesbury.

Cable operator Virgin Media has announced that their 300Mbps capable “fibre optic” broadband and TV network will be expanded to reach an additional 20,000 homes and businesses in the UK city of York, which is where Cityfibre, Sky Broadband and TalkTalk have also been deploying 940Mbps FTTP.

BT has said that the Government can avoid imposing a tricky industry levy on ISPs or using public funding to help pay for the proposed 10Mbps broadband Universal Service Obligation (USO) because they’ll take the full responsibility, as well as pushing superfast broadband (24Mbps+) to 97-98% of the UK.
