{"id":10000,"date":"2015-08-26T08:26:44","date_gmt":"2015-08-26T07:26:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=10000"},"modified":"2015-08-26T08:28:34","modified_gmt":"2015-08-26T07:28:34","slug":"small-uk-business-managers-confused-by-broadband-and-internet-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/08\/small-uk-business-managers-confused-by-broadband-and-internet-services.html","title":{"rendered":"Small UK Business Managers Puzzled by Broadband and Internet Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new survey of 1,141 small and medium sized business bosses, which was conducted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/daisygroup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Daisy Group<\/a>, has found that a staggering 92% have virtually no understanding of data centres, while 75% have no clue about VoIP and 44% are puzzled by &#8220;<em>fibre broadband<\/em>&#8221; (ISPs\u00a0sometimes get that one wrong too).<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The survey also found that only 43% could explain what\u00a0Cloud\u00a0services were\u00a0and just 30% showed\u00a0an understanding of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/adsl\">ADSL<\/a> broadband, although in fairness <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/adsl\">ADSL<\/a> is more of a technical term. More surprisingly there are still 20% or so that have no clue what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/wifi\">WiFi<\/a> does.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Kate O&#8217;Brien, Marketing Director at Daisy Group, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Our research highlighted that there is a gap in understanding the technologies that have been designed for business. In particular, we were shocked to find that 75% of people didn&#8217;t know what VoIP is, especially considering it is a billion pound industry which has been rocketing in popularity over the last five years, due to its ability to dramatically cut businesses&#8217; phone bills<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the business world knowledge is power and the ability to understand how you can boost sales or cut costs by harnessing everything that&#8217;s available to you does afford a huge advantage, yet if you lack the necessary familiarity then the opposite may become true.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand it&#8217;s wrong to assume that all business owners should be inherently familiar with I.T jargon, particularly since there will be some firms where such knowledge could be completely irrelevant.
