{"id":10591,"date":"2015-11-23T01:24:01","date_gmt":"2015-11-23T01:24:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=10591"},"modified":"2015-11-23T07:27:34","modified_gmt":"2015-11-23T07:27:34","slug":"a-third-of-uk-broadband-users-dont-get-the-promised-speeds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/11\/a-third-of-uk-broadband-users-dont-get-the-promised-speeds.html","title":{"rendered":"A Third of UK Broadband Users Don&#8217;t Get their Estimated Speeds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest survey of 1,242 ISPreview.co.uk readers has revealed that the vast majority of respondents do know the\u00a0estimated speed of their broadband Internet connection, yet 34.2% still claim not to be receiving what they&#8217;ve been promised.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Happily the vast majority of respondents do at least keep an eye on their Internet performance by conducting regular connection speedtests, with most viewing such testing as being either &#8220;<em>very important<\/em>&#8221; (49.3%) or of &#8220;<em>average importance<\/em>&#8221; (41.1%) to the monitoring of their connection (just 9.5% felt that it was &#8220;<em>not important<\/em>&#8220;).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Do you know the ISPs estimated speed of your Internet connection?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nYes &#8211; 91.1%<br \/>\nNo &#8211; 8.8%<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Does your ISP deliver close to or more than the estimated speed for your line?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nYes &#8211; 59.9%<br \/>\nNo &#8211; 34.2%<br \/>\nDon&#8217;t know &#8211; 5.7%<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>On average, how often do you run a speedtest (pick closest)?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nOnce a Week &#8211; 35.8%<br \/>\nOnce a Month &#8211; 31.5%<br \/>\nOnce a Day &#8211; 17.8%<br \/>\nVery rarely \/ Never &#8211; 14.7%<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>How important is speed testing to you?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nVery Important &#8211; 49.3%<br \/>\nAverage Importance &#8211; 41.1%<br \/>\nNot Important &#8211; 9.5%<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The ability to understand the real-world performance of your broadband connection is useful for both helping to spot faults and or identifying whether or not your ISP is delivering the promised performance.<\/p>\n<p>The Government also gauge the progress of their national <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/bduk\" target=\"_blank\">Broadband Delivery UK<\/a> programme by using some of the same fixed line performance estimates as ISPs, which today&#8217;s results suggest may not always be reliable and that could impact the perception of their &#8220;<em>superfast broadband<\/em>&#8221; (<strong>24Mbps+<\/strong>) targets.<\/p>\n<p>Mind you speedtests don&#8217;t always give consumers the full picture and sometimes the problems can be due to issues that exist beyond an ISPs ability to control.
