{"id":10697,"date":"2015-12-01T09:35:35","date_gmt":"2015-12-01T09:35:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=10697"},"modified":"2015-12-01T09:36:38","modified_gmt":"2015-12-01T09:36:38","slug":"hackers-steal-customers-data-from-isp-bluebox-broadband","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/12\/hackers-steal-customers-data-from-isp-bluebox-broadband.html","title":{"rendered":"Hackers Steal Personal Subscriber Data from ISP Bluebox Broadband"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After the recent hacking and theft of personal data from several ISPs, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/tt\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">TalkTalk<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/11\/uk-isp-talktalk-now-says-only-156959-customers-affected-by-hack.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vodafone<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/11\/vodafone-joins-talktalk-to-suffer-security-breach-of-1827-accounts.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>), we can today report that the Northern Ireland focused wireless ISP <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/isp_list\/ISP_Detail_Wireless.php?Bluebox-353\" target=\"_blank\">Bluebox Broadband<\/a> (<em>North West Electronics<\/em>) is the latest to fall victim with 3,000 people affected.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Sadly you won&#8217;t find any mention of the breach on the provider\u2019s website, which is in stark contrast to the other two providers that made sure to publish the issue in the open. In fact we wouldn&#8217;t even know about it had the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-northern-ireland-34947595\" target=\"_blank\">BBC<\/a> not discovered the event.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently one of the ISP&#8217;s servers, which was being used to store the personal details of those who had registered an interest in receiving the service, was compromised and the related database then found itself being posted into the public domain via an online notice board last Thursday. Luckily no financial information was involved and the server has now been shut down.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Scott McClelland, Managing Director of Bluebox Broadband, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>At Bluebox we have always taken security very seriously and this incident is the first time anything like this has ever occurred in the 10 years since we began providing internet services. While no significant customer information has been exposed, we will be working with independent experts to learn lessons and take all steps necessary to prevent anything like this happening in the future<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Apparently the data was not enough for it to be used as identity theft, although fraudsters may still be able to use it to target individuals with scams.
