{"id":10947,"date":"2016-01-14T14:00:33","date_gmt":"2016-01-14T14:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=10947"},"modified":"2016-01-14T14:34:33","modified_gmt":"2016-01-14T14:34:33","slug":"customers-of-uk-isp-talktalk-suffer-dead-home-phone-lines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2016\/01\/customers-of-uk-isp-talktalk-suffer-dead-home-phone-lines.html","title":{"rendered":"UPDATE Customers of UK ISP TalkTalk Suffer Dead Phone Lines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A large number of customers with a <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-59\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/tt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"talktalk\">TalkTalk<\/a> home telephone line have spent most of the day with a malfunctioning service, which seemingly presents no dial tone and often does not allow either incoming or outgoing calls.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-59\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/tt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"talktalk\">TalkTalk<\/a> hasn&#8217;t had a useful Service Status page since it was taken off-line during last year&#8217;s <strong>cyber-attack<\/strong> incident, although there&#8217;s no shortage of complaints about the problem on their <a href=\"http:\/\/community.talktalk.co.uk\/t5\/Home-Phone\/bd-p\/49\" target=\"_blank\">Community Forum<\/a>. Most of the gripes began during the early hours of this morning (around 7-8am), although some of the more sporadic complaints also date back to yesterday.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Status Update<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<strong>No dial tone &#8211; Problems using your phone, January 14th 11:10am<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>We\u2019re experiencing problems with no dial tones on some landlines. If you&#8217;re affected by this, you may still be able to make or receive calls. We&#8217;re working hard to fix this issue and will provide a further update here by 2:00pm today.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We really sorry for any inconvenience caused, due to this fault we&#8217;re currently experiencing high call volumes..<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Contrary to the above statement many customers are not able to make outgoing calls, although &#8220;<em>some<\/em>&#8221; can receive them, but experiences do vary. The only good news is that the lines aren&#8217;t totally dead because most of those affected are still able to get online via their <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-121 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/adsl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"digital subscriber line\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/broadband_DSL.php\">DSL<\/a> broadband connection.<\/p>\n<p>The problem appears to have been affecting customers across the United Kingdom, although we understand that <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-46 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"openreach\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.openreach.co.uk\">Openreach<\/a> engineers have already been able to resolve it in some areas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UPDATE 2:32pm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The ISP reports that this fault has now &#8220;<em>been resolved for the majority of our customers and we&#8217;re\u00a0looking to fix the remaining issues by 4pm today<\/em>&#8220;. Apparently customers can register to receive text message updates on this issue by calling 0203 441 5550 (from a mobile) or 0870 444 1820 if calling from a landline (assuming it works.. duh).
