{"id":12734,"date":"2016-10-21T08:17:42","date_gmt":"2016-10-21T07:17:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=12734"},"modified":"2016-10-21T08:19:46","modified_gmt":"2016-10-21T07:19:46","slug":"sky-broadband-open-sky-mobile-sign-ups-31st-october","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2016\/10\/sky-broadband-open-sky-mobile-sign-ups-31st-october.html","title":{"rendered":"Sky Broadband to Open Sky Mobile for Sign-ups on 31st October"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The CEO of Sky UK and Ireland (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/bskyb\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Sky Broadband<\/a>),\u00a0Stephen van Rooyen, has confirmed that existing customers who are interested in taking their forthcoming <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/skymobile\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Sky Mobile<\/a><\/em> plans will be able to register their interest from 31st October 2016.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Last week Sky confirmed that the imminent launch of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/skymobile\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Sky Mobile<\/a><\/strong> had been their &#8220;<em>key focus<\/em>&#8221; during the third quarter of 2016 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2016\/10\/sky-broadband-preps-uk-launch-new-mvno-sky-mobile-service.html\">here<\/a>). As part of that they&#8217;ve been busy completing the &#8220;<em>final readiness milestones<\/em>,&#8221; such as &#8220;<em>successfully completing our first live calls, SMS and data sessions, provisioning our own SIMs, and concluding international roaming agreements<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The new service is powered by a <strong>Mobile Virtual Network Operator<\/strong> (MVNO) agreement with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/o2uk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">O2<\/a>, which is similar to the setup that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/tt\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">TalkTalk<\/a> is in the process of adopting. The new product, which should launch before the end of 2016 as planned, will be used to fuel a new range of triple and or quad-play bundles with broadband, phone and TV services.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Stephen van Rooyen, Sky UK and Ireland CEO, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mobile, at \u00a315bn in revenues, is our largest adjacent sector, so the opportunity to enter and take share is substantial. There are some obvious parallels I would like to draw between our experience in broadband and how we think of entering the mobile market.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The move should help to stem some of the operator&#8217;s churn, although much will depend upon the attractiveness of their offer and many consumers remain nervous about putting all of their communication service and TV entertainment eggs into one basket with a single provider.<\/p>\n<p>One of the key goals of a bundle is to save money, although recent price hikes and the growth of dynamic competitors in the TV space (e.g. Netflix) have put some strain on that notion.
