Community engagement group One Voice<\/a> has managed to secure “significant investment<\/em>” from Virgin Media<\/a> that will see the cable operator expanding its 120Mbps<\/strong> (Megabits) capable broadband services into the communities of Habrough<\/em> and Stallingborough<\/em> in north east Lincolnshire<\/strong> UK.
\n<\/p>\n

Back in April 2012 One Voice informed ISPreview.co.uk (here<\/a>) that the local authority expected to see an investment of \u00a311 million<\/strong> within the North Lincolnshire<\/strong> area, although just 9% of that (\u00a3900,000<\/em>) was set to be spent in the North East corner. The related Local Broadband Plan<\/strong> (LBP) estimated that this would only benefit 728 homes and businesses, which is apparently less than the total number of premises in Stallingborough and Habrough alone.<\/p>\n

As a result the group launched a new campaign for better broadband, which obtained the signatures of 400 people<\/strong> but sadly failed to strong arm a greater proportion of funding from the government’s Broadband Delivery UK<\/a> (BDUK) office.<\/p>\n

Thankfully this is Grimsby<\/a> reports that a group of volunteers then conducted another survey, which revealed how over 70% of locals would switch ISP<\/strong> if another provider (i.e. non-BT<\/a>) entered the market. This was apparently enough to spark the interest of Virgin Media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Virgin Medias Spokesman, Duncan Watts, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We are delighted to confirm that we will be extending our fibre optic network to bring superfast broadband and next generation TV services to the residents of Habrough and Stallingborough.<\/em><\/p>\n

As the project will require significant construction we are currently working through the planning stages and liaising with the local council to seek approvals for the works required and will begin scheduling our roll-out as soon as received<\/em>.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The development means that locals, whom are presently forced to suffer internet download speeds of as low as just 0.5Mbps<\/strong>, will soon get access to the latest 120Mbps connections from Virgin Media<\/a>. Nicely done One Voice.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
