BT<\/a> has today announced that it will aim to create 1,700 new apprenticeship and graduate jobs during 2017, with the new employees being expected to work in a variety of roles, ranging from cyber security and engineering roles to production at BTSport (some will also go to EE<\/a> and Plusnet<\/a>).<\/p>\n

At present BT<\/a> employs around 81,000 people across the United Kingdom and over the past two years they’ve recruited nearly 2,500 apprentices and graduates. The new recruits will add to that total and be spread across a number of locations including London, Glasgow, Belfast, Sheffield, Nottingham, Cardiff, Leeds and Newcastle-upon-Tyne.<\/p>\n

Perhaps it’s a sign of the times that the now more independent Openreach<\/a>, BT<\/a>’s local access network division, will apparently launch their own semi-separate recruitment drive in due course.<\/p>\n

Gavin Patterson, BT’s CEO, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Young people today need three basic skills \u2013 reading, writing, and tech know-how. BT is investing in the next generation, helping to train primary school teachers to teach computer science and recruiting large numbers of apprentices and graduates. This is the right thing for us to do if the UK is to remain a digital leader.<\/p>\n

It is an exciting time to join BT as it continues to invest in ultrafast broadband, 4G<\/a>, television and sport. We are also preparing for future technologies, including 5G<\/a>, and so we want to recruit the very best. Our apprenticeship and graduate roles will offer people the hands on experience they need to succeed.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
