The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA<\/a>) has today opened public nominations for this year’s ‘Internet Hero<\/em>‘ and ‘Internet Villain<\/em>‘ categories, which form part of their 2017 awards event that is due to be held at Caf\u00e9 de Paris in London’s West End on 13th July 2017.<\/p>\n

Last year saw Apple<\/strong> being named as the ISPA<\/a>’s Internet Hero for attempting to defend the fundamental principles of encryption and customer privacy, not least against the UK government’s Internet snooping legislation (IPAct). At the same time Mossack Fonseca Panama<\/strong> picked up the Internet Villain award for their massive lapse in cyber security and leaking of confidential financial data.<\/p>\n

We’re not sure who or what would make a good pick for this year’s Hero gong, although there are plenty of potential Villains to choose from thanks to Donald Trump and the Internet censorship aspects of the new Digital Economy Act.. among many others.<\/p>\n

Nominations can be submitted to ISPA via email (awards@ispa.org.uk) or via twitter (@ISPAUK<\/a>) using the hashtags #InternetHero<\/strong> and #InternetVillain<\/strong>. The ISPA will be taking nominations up until Monday 5th June 2017.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
