{"id":14173,"date":"2017-06-30T07:39:08","date_gmt":"2017-06-30T06:39:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=14173"},"modified":"2017-06-30T07:42:28","modified_gmt":"2017-06-30T06:42:28","slug":"uk-isp-plusnet-removes-broadband-internet-traffic-prioritisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2017\/06\/uk-isp-plusnet-removes-broadband-internet-traffic-prioritisation.html","title":{"rendered":"UK ISP Plusnet Removes Broadband Internet Traffic Prioritisation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Internet traffic prioritisation has been completely removed from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/plusnetuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Plusnet<\/a>&#8217;s residential broadband service(s), which is because the ISP claims to have been &#8220;<em>investing heavily in its network<\/em>&#8221; and as a result their platform now has enough &#8220;<em>capacity and resilience<\/em>&#8221; that prioritisation is no longer needed.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Prioritisation is a form of <strong>Traffic Management<\/strong>, which is sometimes used (e.g. during busy periods) as a means to ensure that certain types of important Internet traffic (e.g. VoIP calls, Multiplayer video gaming, VPN) are not affected by general network congestion from &#8220;<em>other less &#8216;time-sensitive&#8217; traffic protocols<\/em>&#8221; (e.g. P2P file sharing).<\/p>\n<p>According to an announcement that was sent to us yesterday, traffic prioritisation was removed from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/plusnetuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Plusnet<\/a>&#8217;s network overnight from June 28th to 29th 2017.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/plusnetuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Plusnet<\/a>&#8217;s Traffic Prioritisation Q&amp;A<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 Why are you removing traffic prioritisation?<\/strong><br \/>\nPlusnet has been investing in its network improving capacity and resilience, and as such we are confident customers will see no degradation in service due to the removal of traffic prioritisation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 When will the removal of traffic prioritisation take place?<\/strong><br \/>\nTraffic prioritisation will be removed overnight from June 28 to June 29.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2022 What products will have the removal of traffic prioritisation?<\/strong><br \/>\nPlusnet\u2019s residential unlimited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/adsl\">ADSL<\/a> and fibre broadband customers will have traffic prioritisation removed.
