{"id":14258,"date":"2017-07-14T13:57:30","date_gmt":"2017-07-14T12:57:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=14258"},"modified":"2017-07-14T14:00:09","modified_gmt":"2017-07-14T13:00:09","slug":"councillor-demands-answers-aylesbury-vale-broadband-progress","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2017\/07\/councillor-demands-answers-aylesbury-vale-broadband-progress.html","title":{"rendered":"Councillor Demands Answers on Aylesbury Vale Broadband Progress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Liberal Democrat Councillor for Winslow in Buckinghamshire, Llew Monger, has challenged the financial health and progress of the <a href=\"http:\/\/avbroadband.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aylesbury Vale Broadband<\/a> project that has been rolling out an ultrafast &#8220;<em>full fibre<\/em>&#8221; (<a class=\"shortlink shortlink-122 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ftth\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"ftth\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/broadband_fibre_optic.php\">FTTH<\/a>\/P) broadband network to a number of rural villages.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The operator, which is currently reaching Hoggeston, Granborough, North Marston, Swanbourne and other nearby villages, claims to have so far covered approximately 2,000 premises and is supported by \u00a3700,000 of public investment (loan).<\/p>\n<p>However the project has also run into the odd overbuilding challenge with <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-40\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/gigaclear\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"gigaclear\">Gigaclear<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2017\/03\/aylesbury-vale-broadband-gigaclear-buckinghamshire-fttp-overbuild.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>) and a local fixed wireless broadband provider. The <a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/index_en.htm\" target=\"_new\">European Commission<\/a>\u2019s Directorate-General for Competition has also taken a look at the setup (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2016\/09\/ec-probe-state-aid-complaint-vs-buckinghamshire-fttp-broadband-project.html\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Llew Monger said (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bucksherald.co.uk\/news\/councillor-s-concern-about-the-amount-of-public-money-being-made-available-to-av-broadband-1-8056574\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Bucks Herald<\/a>):<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is an obvious trail of avoidance. I want to know how much money was put into the business and whether the performance of the business matches its financial target.<\/p>\n<p>I have regularly asked to see the management accounts, which surely must be produced, but the constant response is that AVB is a private company. A private company it may be, but it is 95% owned by the council tax payers of Aylesbury Vale.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>However AVB&#8217;s Director, <strong>Tracey Aldworth<\/strong>, counters by stating that related information and reports on AVB&#8217;s progress are freely available in the public domain and their quarter on quarter subscriber growth is 144% (revenue growth of 45%).
