Sky (Sky Broadband<\/a>) has today introduced a new Sky Mobile<\/a> 4G<\/a> plan with a bigger 10GB data allowance for \u00a320 per month. On top of that they’ve also reduced the price of their 5GB plan from \u00a320 to \u00a315 per month and removed the old 3GB plan entirely (existing customers can upgrade).<\/p>\n

As usual existing Sky TV customers will also benefit from free unlimited UK calls and texts on all of the plans. Unfortunately if you’re NOT a Sky TV subscriber then you’ll need to pay an extra +\u00a310 per month to receive unlimited calls and texts (otherwise the calls and texts are pay-as-you-go). Meanwhile existing Sky Broadband<\/a> and phone customers aren’t offered any such discounts, unless they add Sky TV.<\/p>\n

Liz Wynn, Sky\u2019s Director of Mobile, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“We launched Sky Mobile<\/a> to offer more flexibility and great value \u2013 and that\u2019s exactly what we\u2019re doing by introducing our new data plan. 10GB is ideal for people who want to use their phone to do it all \u2013 from streaming, browsing and watching to gaming. September is an important month for our customers who want to get their hands on the latest phones, and we\u2019re excited to now give them even more choice and value.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The changes are due to be introduced from 15th September this week. Sky’s mobile service is based off a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) agreement with O2<\/a> (Telefonica UK).<\/p>\n

Sky Mobile<\/a>’s Key Features<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7 Roll<\/strong> \u2013 Customers can roll over unused data into their online \u2018piggybank\u2019 each month (in 1GB increments), to use whenever they need for up to 3 years. Some rivals do this, but the data roll-over usually expires quite quickly.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Mix<\/strong> \u2013 Customers can create a plan that\u2019s right for them, which they can change every month. Just to clarify this, Sky Mobile plans are still 12 month contracts, but customers are free to change their \u201cMix\u201d of data, calls and texts every month.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Save<\/strong> \u2013 Sky TV customers don\u2019t have to pay for unlimited UK calls or texts with any Sky Mobile data plan. Each household will also be able to register up to 5 SIMs, which Sky claims could generate an annual saving of up to \u00a3600 a year on their Sky Mobile bill. In addition, Sky+ customers choosing to take Sky Mobile will receive Sky Go Extra for free, saving \u00a360 a year.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Sync<\/strong> \u2013 Sky TV customers can create their personal playlists of favourite shows, synced from their Sky box at home, to watch wherever they are. This mobile entertainment service is available for Sky+ customers at launch, with the functionality coming for customers with a Sky Q box next year.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Swap<\/strong> \u2013 After 12 or 24 months, Sky will let customers know when it\u2019s time to Swap and they can then choose a brand new phone from their entire range of handsets, including Samsung, LG and Sony (these aren\u2019t available until tomorrow). This service is said to be \u201cfree of charges \u2013 no upgrade fees, no admin charges and delivered for free.<\/em>\u201c<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
