New customers of Vodafone<\/a>’s unlimited ‘up to 38Mbps and ‘up to’ 76Mbps capable FTTC<\/a> (VDSL2<\/a>) based “fibre broadband<\/em>” packages can now benefit from a 20% discount on the monthly rental, which will apply for the first 18 months of service. As a result the prices now start from \u00a320 per month.<\/p>\n

The new deal will be available to order until 9th October 2017<\/strong>. Both of the related packages also include a wireless router, unlimited usage, phone line rental and an 18 month contract term. In addition, neither of the packages requires you to pay a one-off setup fee for activation, although if you happen to need a brand new Openreach<\/a> line installed then that may carry and \u00a360 one-off installation cost.<\/p>\n

The price point that Vodafone<\/a> has adopted for their 38Mbps tier makes this just about the cheapest “superfast broadband<\/em>” package on Openreach<\/a>’s FTTC<\/a> network. Oddly it also means that their slower ‘up to’ 17Mbps ADSL<\/a>+ package is now more expensive than fibre at \u00a325 per month + a setup fee of \u00a324 for existing customers or \u00a349 for new customers.<\/p>\n

Mind you it’s not unusual for ISPs to adopt such aggressive pricing when trying to grow their subscriber base, although such tactics can sometimes result in a loss of service quality, unless carefully subsidised to avoid such an outcome (Origin Broadband<\/a> has experienced this and they are also one of the cheapest). Historically providers tend to raise their prices further down the road, once they’ve grown.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
