Mobile operator EE<\/a> will tomorrow launch a range of new “Flex plans<\/em>,” which appear to be targeted at pay-as-you-go customers but ask them to make regular payments like a Pay Monthly service. But with Flex there’s no contract to worry about and you can “change, pause or stop the plan and take a break whenever [you] like<\/em>.”<\/p>\n

At present EE<\/a>‘s existing Pay-As-You-Go<\/strong> (PAYG) options tend to be a little bit confusing with all the different add-on packs available, thus the new Flex Plans<\/strong> aim to deliver the same sort of benefits but without that confusion. In doing this they also appear to be bringing PAYG closer to the Pay Monthly<\/strong> model, although equally it might attract some Pay Monthly subscribers to adopt Flex instead.<\/p>\n

The operator says that their “Flex plans give customers the best of both worlds<\/em>” and, like pay monthly plans, a Flex plan allows customers to set up one regular payment so they never have to worry about topping up, but like on PAYG, there’s no contract so they can change, pause or stop it whenever they like.<\/p>\n

Max Taylor, MD of EE<\/a>’s Marketing, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Our new plans give customers great flexibility and control and are unpinned by the UK\u2019s best network. Customers on Flex plans have the freedom to pause or change their plan at any time, with the value and simplicity offered from a traditional pay monthly plan.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Crucially the pricing is fairly attractive for what you get, with a \u00a310 payment giving you 2GB of data (mobile broadband), 1000 mins of calls and unlimited texts to use over 30 days (payments scale up to \u00a330 for the addition of 20GB and 3000 minutes).<\/p>\n

The operator states that customers will also receive a “free data boost the longer they stay on a Flex plan<\/em>” (i.e. an extra 500MB every 3 months) and if a user doesn\u2019t manage to get through all their data, they can roll over what’s left into next month’s allowance (i.e. a second chance to use it).<\/p>\n
