{"id":17747,"date":"2019-01-10T09:00:32","date_gmt":"2019-01-10T09:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=17747"},"modified":"2019-01-09T14:27:54","modified_gmt":"2019-01-09T14:27:54","slug":"isp-mll-telecom-secure-10gbps-wide-area-network-contract-for-fife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2019\/01\/isp-mll-telecom-secure-10gbps-wide-area-network-contract-for-fife.html","title":{"rendered":"ISP MLL Telecom Secure 10Gbps Wide Area Network Contract for Fife"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Business focused UK ISP <a href=\"https:\/\/mlltelecom.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MLL Telecom<\/a> has today announced that they&#8217;ve been appointed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fifedirect.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fife Council<\/a> in Scotland to transition and transform the local authority&#8217;s existing Wide Area Network (WAN) infrastructure, not least by adding additional bandwidth to council sites via a new 10Gbps capacity core network.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The increased speed should support Fife Council&#8217;s future growth strategy, with MLL Telecom also providing a migration path to upgrade from existing copper to new fibre optic based services over the term of the contract. The Council are also expecting to benefit from &#8220;<em>significant cost reductions<\/em>&#8221; (i.e. it could deliver in excess of 25% cost savings over the term of the contract).<\/p>\n<p>Educational establishments across Fife will also stand to benefit from the new WAN, with MLL set to deliver 1Gbs broadband speeds to all secondary schools in the region. This increased bandwidth will help the council address schools&#8217; demands for increased bandwidth for cloud and internet services in the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>MLL Telecom has also pledged its own support to delivering community benefits, including supporting STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, arts and math) initiatives across primary and secondary education, creating apprenticeships for local residents, and working closely with designated local charities. It will also assist the Council in developing its strategy and thinking around IoT.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Craig Scott, MLL&#8217;s Business Development Director, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a resident of Fife I am delighted that MLL Telecom has been chosen by Fife Council to deliver its new, upgraded WAN. With the ever increasing pressure on public sector budgets, connectivity is high on the agenda of public sector organisations, and councils such as Fife are recognising the value of enhanced connectivity for the delivery of public services, particularly in education.<\/p>\n<p>This announcement further builds on our momentum and continuing investment in Scotland. We\u2019re excited to be leveraging our experience as a managed service provider to the public sector to support Fife Council\u2019s future growth strategy.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Charlie Anderson, CIO for Fife Council, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is critical that we receive the right level of connectivity to meet our increasing digital needs. The enhanced bandwidth will positively impact on many council services, particularly in education, where the increase in internet-based teaching has placed added pressure to upgrade our connectivity. This new contract with MLL Telecom will not only allow us to meet current demands for enhanced bandwidth, but will also help to support our future growth strategies.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Under the 5-year contract (includes an option to extend by 3 years and then a further 2 years) MLL expects to start the initial transition phase on 31st August 2019, while the full transition to the new infrastructure is due to be completed by 1st September 2020.
