{"id":18182,"date":"2019-03-12T15:05:37","date_gmt":"2019-03-12T15:05:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=18182"},"modified":"2019-03-12T15:05:37","modified_gmt":"2019-03-12T15:05:37","slug":"talktalks-fttp-rollout-in-the-uk-city-of-york-reaches-poppleton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2019\/03\/talktalks-fttp-rollout-in-the-uk-city-of-york-reaches-poppleton.html","title":{"rendered":"TalkTalk&#8217;s FTTP Rollout in the UK City of York Reaches Poppleton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Budget UK ISP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/tt\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">TalkTalk<\/a> has announced that residents in the Poppleton area of York are the latest to get access to their 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a>) broadband network, which as reported last week (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2019\/03\/talktalks-1gbps-fttp-broadband-in-york-reaches-33000-premises.html\">here<\/a>) has already covered 33,000 premises in the city and should reach 55,000 by 2020.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>So far, the local &#8220;<em>Ultra Fibre Optic<\/em>&#8221; roll-out has seen 308 kilometres of fibre optic cabling being laid under the streets of York and digging has recently started in Heworth and Tang Hall as work moves to the East of the city.<\/p>\n<p>Residents in the North of the City in Rawcliffe, Clifton, Huntington, New Earswick, along with parts of The Groves have been able to connect to the network for the last three years.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Cllr Ian Gillies, Leader of City of York Council, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As the UK\u2019s first gigabit city, improved connectivity is providing new opportunities for residents and businesses across York off the back of millions of pounds of public and private sector investment.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re pleased to see that more of the city is now able to access gigabit speeds and are committed to ensuring that every area of the city is connected to the fastest speeds possible. Investment from connectivity providers plays an important role in creating a future-ready, digital city and with more and more homes due to be connected this year it is an exciting time for the city.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Alex Birtles, Director of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/tt\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">TalkTalk<\/a>, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re committed to unlocking York\u2019s full digital potential and transforming it into the UK\u2019s first Ultra Fibre Optic city.
