{"id":1915,"date":"2012-10-22T11:20:10","date_gmt":"2012-10-22T10:20:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=1915"},"modified":"2012-10-22T11:24:35","modified_gmt":"2012-10-22T10:24:35","slug":"gigler-isp-trials-1gbps-fibre-optic-broadband-for-bournemouth-uk-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2012\/10\/gigler-isp-trials-1gbps-fibre-optic-broadband-for-bournemouth-uk-businesses.html","title":{"rendered":"ISP Gigler Trial 1Gbps Fibre Optic Broadband for Bournemouth UK Businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gigler.co.uk\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Gigler<\/strong><\/a> has today begun fresh <strong>trials<\/strong> of a new symmetric <strong>1Gbps<\/strong> (Gigabits per second) capable business service in the English south coast town of <strong>Bournemouth<\/strong>, which will harness the power of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/cityfibre\" target=\"_blank\">CityFibre<\/a>&#8217;s local <strong>Fibre-to-the-Home<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ftth\">FTTH<\/a>) based fibre optic broadband ISP network.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The service, which was officially <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2012\/10\/new-isp-gigler-brings-1gbps-ftth-broadband-speeds-to-bournemouth-uk.html\" target=\"_blank\">re-launched to 21,000 homes<\/a> in the town earlier this month, has also begun inviting local firms to register their interest on the ISPs website so that the network can be extended to areas with the greatest demand.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Tony Williams, CEO of Bournemouth Borough Council, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/cityfibre\" target=\"_blank\">CityFibre<\/a>&#8217;s investment in making Bournemouth the UK&#8217;s first gigabit town, alongside Gigler&#8217;s launch of services, will be a boost for business and will bring tremendous improvement to local residents in terms of speed and quality of access to the Internet.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The investment complements the council&#8217;s work in raising awareness of the town&#8217;s potential to take advantage of new information opportunities and helps position Bournemouth on the international stage. We will be working not only with Bournemouth businesses but also with the University, Arts University and other partners to ensure projects like the new National Coastal Tourism Academy can take advantage of our position as the UK first gigabit town<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s not known precisely how many companies have already joined the trial, although one of the businesses helping to test the <strong>Gigler Business Broadband<\/strong> product is <strong>UK Sweets<\/strong>; an online confectionery wholesaler that employs 15 local staff.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Mark Worthington, Director of UK Sweets, said: <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Before we started trialing pure fibre broadband from Gigler, our head office was using a single <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/adsl\">ADSL<\/a> line with service from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>. Without a consistent and quality service it was hard trying to run a business using digital media. Calls would drop and our site would be offline which is extremely damaging to reputation and profit.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Since getting Gigler, the incredible download speeds mean we can now give our clients a level of service that exceeds their expectations; coupled with the equally fast upload speeds also means easy and instant uploads to our sites.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We now have full confidence that this service will help us grow instead of holding us back. This type of pure fibre service will help other businesses like ours take full advantage of the explosive growth in digital opportunities<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vm\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Media<\/a> already have a significant presence in Bournemouth and as a result Gigler will be aiming to\u00a0best their service, which is a challenge given the huge differences in scale. Sadly Gigler&#8217;s website currently makes no clear mention of its business service and thus no comparison can yet be made.
