{"id":20610,"date":"2020-01-04T07:23:57","date_gmt":"2020-01-04T07:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=20610"},"modified":"2020-01-04T07:34:31","modified_gmt":"2020-01-04T07:34:31","slug":"sky-uk-to-boost-content-and-support-with-3000-new-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/01\/sky-uk-to-boost-content-and-support-with-3000-new-jobs.html","title":{"rendered":"Sky UK to Boost Content and Support with 3,000 New Jobs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Customers of Sky (Sky TV and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/bskyb\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Sky Broadband<\/a>) may be pleased to learn that the Comcast owned broadcaster and ISP intends to hire more engineering, customer support and TV content creator staff in 2020, which could see their headcount increase again by around 3,000 jobs (making for a total of over 30,000 employees).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Sky&#8217;s UK and Ireland division has already added 3,500 extra jobs during 2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2019\/11\/sky-uk-boosts-engineers-and-support-staff-with-1000-new-jobs.html\">example<\/a>) and by the sound of it 2020 will be much the same. The company isn&#8217;t just aiming to add more support and engineering roles in 2020, but they&#8217;ll also need to staff the expansion of their Leeds technology campus and new studio complex in Elstree.<\/p>\n<p>The plan for 2020 will see roughly 500 more customer service staff being added (probably at their main Leeds centre again), as well as 500 further engineers (mostly for Sky Q \/ Sky TV etc.) and another 2,000 are expected to work in their Elstree studio complex on the creation of new content etc.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Stephen van Rooyen, CEO of Sky UK &amp; Ireland, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Over the last 12 months, we&#8217;ve hired 3,500 new employees who have been developing new Sky products, producing hit shows and keeping our customers connected right across the UK. We&#8217;ll be hiring even more engineers and customer service teams right across the UK to keep up with customer demand.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Data from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\">Ofcom<\/a> suggests that Sky typically receives some of the fewest consumer complaints of all the largest broadband, phone and pay TV providers in the UK. As such the addition of new staff to help cope with growth is a positive sign that they intend to retain that position (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2019\/11\/vodafone-uk-top-naughty-list-for-q2-2019-broadband-gripes.html\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand Sky, via Comcast, has long since stopped issuing a breakdown of their customer figures and so we don&#8217;t actually know how much their broadband base has grown or shrunk since 2018. On the broadband front the next big development is likely to be their addition of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\">Openreach<\/a>&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a> service, as well as possibly hopping into bed with some alternative full fibre providers.
