French company nPerf has now decided to start publishing an annual study of UK mobile operator (mobile broadband) performance, which is based off crowd-sourced data. Overall the inaugural study finds that <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-90\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"vodafone\">Vodafone<\/a> UK provided the &#8220;<em>Best Mobile Internet Performance<\/em>&#8221; in 2019.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In this case nPerf&#8217;s results appear to be based off just 42,033 connection tests (including speed, web browsing and streaming tests), which were made via their mobile app (iOS, Android). The data was then aggregated to establish a performance benchmark.<\/p>\n<p>As usual there are caveats to this sort of crowd-sourced data. For example, app-based data such as this could be impacted by any limitations of the devices being used, which at the same time removes the ability to adopt a common type of hardware in order to establish a solid baseline of performance.<\/p>\n<p>The number of tests conducted also appears to be significantly smaller than we&#8217;ve seen from other crowd-sourced based reports (examples <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2019\/10\/ee-beats-o2-vodafone-and-three-uk-to-top-opensignal-study.html\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2019\/09\/ee-comes-top-in-tutelas-2019-state-of-uk-mobile-networks-report.html\">here<\/a>), including those conducting using more manual scientific methods (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/02\/ee-awarded-top-uk-mobile-network-for-h2-2019-by-rootmetrics.html\">here)<\/a>. Suffice to say, take these results with a pinch of salt, just like you would for any other study.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #339966;\"><strong>Results of the nPerf Study (2020)<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Overall <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-90\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"vodafone\">Vodafone<\/a> was awarded as the best UK mobile network operator and they came top for mobile broadband download speed (50Mbps), as well as upload speed (13Mbps). Meanwhile <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-43\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"ee home broadband\">EE<\/a> sits in second place and was awarded best for network latency (43ms), best for browsing (performance rate 70%) and best for streaming (performance rate of 83%). Meanwhile <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-80\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/threeuk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"three uk\">Three UK<\/a> and <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-68\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/o2uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" title=\"o2\">O2<\/a> were battling some way behind.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" style=\"padding: 0px; border-radius: 4px; width: 100%;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/wp-content\/gallery\/2020-uk-internet-statistics\/nperf_uk_mobile_performance_awards_2020.png\" alt=\"nperf_uk_mobile_performance_awards_2020\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As if we didn&#8217;t have enough conflicting studies.
