{"id":21409,"date":"2020-03-07T07:31:51","date_gmt":"2020-03-07T07:31:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=21409"},"modified":"2020-03-07T07:31:51","modified_gmt":"2020-03-07T07:31:51","slug":"security-vulnerabilities-strike-50-models-of-netgear-routers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/03\/security-vulnerabilities-strike-50-models-of-netgear-routers.html","title":{"rendered":"Security Vulnerabilities Strike 50 Models of Netgear Routers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once again a mass of almost 50 different models of broadband wireless router(s), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/wifi\">WiFi<\/a> range extenders and gateways from Netgear, including some of their more recent kit (mostly affecting those within the D6000, R6000, R7000, R8000, PR2000, R9000 and XR500 families), have been hit by a string of new security vulnerabilities.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The security risk from these flaws tends to range in severity and the company has already released firmware updates so that customers can patch them ASAP. The first one (<a href=\"https:\/\/kb.netgear.com\/000061740\/Security-Advisory-for-Unauthenticated-Remote-Code-Execution-on-R7800-PSV-2019-0076\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>PSV-2019-0076<\/strong><\/a>) relates to a critical &#8216;<em>Unauthenticated Remote Code Execution<\/em>&#8216; bug on their R7800 router (firmware versions prior to 1.0.2.68).<\/p>\n<p>On top of that the same R7800 model, as well as a mass of other Netgear routers in the D6000, R6000, R7000, R8000, R9000 and XR500 families, are also affected by a &#8216;<em>Post-Authentication Command Injection<\/em>&#8216; (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/kb.netgear.com\/000061760\/Security-Advisory-for-Post-Authentication-Command-Injection-on-Some-Routers-and-Gateways-PSV-2018-0352\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PSV-2018-0352<\/a><\/strong>) flaw. The danger level for this one is rated as &#8216;high&#8217;, rather than &#8216;critical&#8217;, for its severity and should also be patched ASAP.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly we&#8217;re not finished yet. A &#8216;<em>Pre-Authentication Command Injection<\/em>&#8216; (<a href=\"https:\/\/kb.netgear.com\/000061741\/Security-Advisory-for-Pre-Authentication-Command-Injection-on-Some-Routers-PSV-2019-0051\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>PSV-2019-0051<\/strong><\/a>) flaw was found to affect several models of Netgear router within the R6000 and R7000 families (rated &#8216;high&#8217; for severity), while a less serious &#8216;<em>Authentication Bypass<\/em>&#8216; (<a href=\"https:\/\/kb.netgear.com\/000061742\/Security-Advisory-for-Authentication-Bypass-on-Some-Gateways-and-Routers-PSV-2018-0570\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>PSV-2018-0570<\/strong><\/a>) vulnerability (rated as &#8216;medium&#8217; for severity) was found to impact various other router and gateway models in the same families, plus a PR2000 and JR6150.<\/p>\n<p>Long story short, if you have any one of the models listed below (credits to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tomsguide.com\/news\/netgear-security-firmware-patches\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toms Guide<\/a>) then hop along to the Netgear website and get the latest March 2020 firmware releases.
