Customers of national UK ISP Uno<\/a> and rural provider County Broadband<\/a>, specifically those on legacy packages that still apply usage allowances, may be pleased to know that both providers have now removed their data caps in order to help people through the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.<\/p>\n

In the case of Uno<\/a>, the provider said: “For our customers on legacy usage-based services, we have removed usage allowances on these products for 3 months due to the ongoing situation regarding Covid-19<\/em>.” Uno<\/a> also noted that Openreach<\/a>’s decision yesterday to limit engineering work (here<\/a>) would impact them and they will thus soon be contacting those with future installations booked.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile County Broadband, which operates both an older fixed wireless network (this one has a lot of data capped options) and a newer “full fibre<\/em>” (FTTP<\/a>) infrastructure (these tend to be unlimited), has said that they will also convert “any packages with data caps to unlimited data packages and [be] putting on hold inflation linked price increases<\/em>.”<\/p>\n

Lloyd Felton, CEO of County Broadband, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“The past few weeks have proved very disruptive for everyone with the COVID-19 health pandemic temporarily restructuring our way of life in rapid and profound ways. What has become very clear is that the internet has become the fourth utility, essential to employees remote working, children remote learning, providing entertainment and for staying in virtual touch with family and friends \u2013 especially for those in more remote rural communities.<\/p>\n

We are therefore today converting any packages with data caps to unlimited data packages and putting on hold inflation linked price increases that were previously planned to align our packages to the market as a whole. We hope this announcement will provide much needed help for our customers during this uncertain and challenging time. Our customer services team will also be providing additional support to those who need it.<\/p>\n

COVID-19 has served to shine a spotlight on the urgent need for the UK to upgrade its digital infrastructure and we are proud to be doing our bit with the rollout of full-fibre broadband to replace outdated, existing copper based networks.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
