Vodafone<\/a> UK will today join some of the other major ISPs (e.g. BT<\/a>) by increasing the minimum contract term of their “superfast<\/em>” FTTC<\/a> broadband and phone packages from 18 to 24 months. At the same time they’ll also discount the Superfast 1 (35Mbps) package to be priced the same as Superfast 2 (63Mbps) from \u00a320.95 a month.<\/p>\n

Generally we tend to advise consumers against adopting such long contract terms as it can easily result in you becoming trapped if problems occur. On the other hand you do still benefit from locking in any discounts for a much longer period of time, which might have some benefits during the current crisis.<\/p>\n

At the time of writing we’ve only been told that this change will apply to their Openreach<\/a> based “superfast<\/em>” Fibre-to-the-Cabinet<\/strong> (FTTC<\/a>) packages, while their Cityfibre<\/a> (FTTH<\/a>) based Gigafast Broadband<\/strong><\/a> services still use the 18 month term. However we will double check this later today to see if their Gigafast packages have also adopted a different contract length and update again if they have.<\/p>\n

In separate news, Vodafone<\/a> has announced that they will begin rolling out Wi-Fi Calling<\/strong> for their remaining customers (some 80% have already been enabled for it). As before, you’ll need an eligible smartphone in order to benefit from this feature.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
