{"id":23203,"date":"2020-07-22T00:01:07","date_gmt":"2020-07-21T23:01:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=23203"},"modified":"2020-07-22T07:33:46","modified_gmt":"2020-07-22T06:33:46","slug":"capita-to-rollout-emergency-network-on-london-underground","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/07\/capita-to-rollout-emergency-network-on-london-underground.html","title":{"rendered":"Capita to Rollout Emergency Network on London Underground"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tfl.gov.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Transport for London<\/a> (TfL) has today awarded Capita the contract to design and roll-out key parts of a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> (mobile) based Emergency Services Network (ESN) throughout the London Underground, which will be used by the police, fire, rescue and ambulance teams to communicate during any incidents that may require their attention.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The contract &#8211; to design and deliver the network infrastructure which underpins ESN for the London Underground &#8211; is said to be worth <strong>\u00a323.5m<\/strong> over 12 months (funded by the <strong>Home Office)<\/strong>. The new setup will replace the existing Motorola-owned <strong>Airwave<\/strong> network, which harnesses <strong>TETRA<\/strong> (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) network technology (sadly this only tends to deliver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/dialup\">dialup<\/a> style data speeds).<\/p>\n<p>The scope of the contract includes the design, installation and testing of network cables in TfL&#8217;s underground tunnels, as well as the installation and testing of the <strong>Local Area Network<\/strong> (LAN) infrastructure on platforms and in stations. The service itself is to be delivered by mobile operator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Shashi Verma, CFO of TfL, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This contract delivers key elements of the infrastructure required to bring the new Emergency Services Network to the London Underground network.
