{"id":23305,"date":"2020-07-28T11:42:29","date_gmt":"2020-07-28T10:42:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=23305"},"modified":"2020-07-28T11:42:29","modified_gmt":"2020-07-28T10:42:29","slug":"ee-uk-boosts-parental-controls-over-childrens-smartphones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/07\/ee-uk-boosts-parental-controls-over-childrens-smartphones.html","title":{"rendered":"EE UK Boosts Parental Controls Over Children&#8217;s Smartphones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mobile operator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>) has today launched &#8220;<em>Set Up Safe<\/em>&#8221; for all UK Pay Monthly customers, which is a free new SMS service that is designed to help parents &#8220;<em>quickly and easily set up their child&#8217;s phone with safety features<\/em>&#8221; (i.e. block adult internet content, set spending caps and stop them adding extra charges to the bill etc.).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The new <a href=\"https:\/\/ee.co.uk\/help\/help-new\/safety-and-security\/content-lock\/set-up-safe-manage-childs-phone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Set Up Safe<\/strong><\/a> service, which has been developed alongside not-for-profit organisation Internet Matters, offers parents a range of recommended age settings for their children\u2019s mobile phone. By texting &#8220;<em>Set Up Safe<\/em>&#8221; to 150 from an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> device, parents can easily select their preference from the options provided over text.<\/p>\n<p>After that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> will then automatically apply these to the device to safely set up the phone with restricted usage, simplifying the process for the 51% of parents who, it&#8217;s claimed, previously found the process of adding safety features to be &#8220;<em>complicated and time consuming<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This service includes settings such as an adult content lock, spend caps, preventing charges to bill, and blocking calls and texts to premium numbers.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Mat Sears, EE&#8217;s Consumer Corporate Affairs Director, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While technology is now playing a bigger role in family life than ever before, we understand that online safety is just one of many things parents will be thinking about as their children start to head out with lockdown restrictions easing.
