{"id":24053,"date":"2020-09-18T14:21:18","date_gmt":"2020-09-18T13:21:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=24053"},"modified":"2020-09-18T14:23:01","modified_gmt":"2020-09-18T13:23:01","slug":"kcoms-broadband-isp-engineers-get-first-electric-vehicles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/09\/kcoms-broadband-isp-engineers-get-first-electric-vehicles.html","title":{"rendered":"KCOM&#8217;s Broadband ISP Engineers Get First Electric Vehicles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Broadband ISP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/kcom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">KCOM<\/a>, which is currently extending the availability of their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a>) network across more of East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire in England, has followed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\">Openreach<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>) by deploying their first Electric Vehicles (EV) for engineers and other staff to trial.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The operator currently aspires to become a zero-carbon company and part of that will involve the gradual conversion to a new &#8220;<em>eco-friendly fleet<\/em>.&#8221; As part of that they&#8217;ve just introduced 3 new <strong>Nissan Leaf N-Connecta<\/strong> cars (mostly used by staff travelling between offices) and 2 <strong>Renault Kangoo<\/strong> vans (mostly used by engineers), which adopt distinctive green and white liveries.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bq2\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/kcom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">KCOM<\/a>&#8217;s current vehicle fleet includes 200 vans.<\/div>\n<p>The Nissan Leaf cars can travel a respectable 168 miles on a single charge, while the Renault KANGOO Z.E. 33 claims a WLTP range of 143 miles but promises &#8220;<em>real life estimates of 124 miles in summer and 75 miles in winter<\/em>.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\">Openreach<\/a> also deployed a number of the Kangoo cars as part of an initial trial (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2019\/07\/openreach-trials-100-electric-vans-for-their-uk-engineers.html\">here<\/a>), although they&#8217;ve more recently opted for Vauxhall&#8217;s EVs (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/08\/openreach-uk-buy-279-electric-vehicles-from-vauxhall-for-engineers.html\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>As part of this change <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/kcom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">KCOM<\/a> has also installed charging points at both of their main Hull offices in <strong>Carr Lane<\/strong> and <strong>Salvesen Way<\/strong>. The move supports Hull City Council\u2019s aim to be carbon neutral by 2030, as well as the UK Government&#8217;s plan to ban the sale of all petrol and diesel cars from 2030.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Tim Shaw, MD of KCOM Wholesale &amp; Networks, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s time we all did our bit and stepped up to do whatever we can to help combat the climate emergency the world is facing.<\/p>\n<p>At KCOM we have been looking into the changes we can make \u2013 both big and small \u2013 that will have a real impact. I\u2019m delighted to announce that this month we are taking our next step towards being a greener business by introducing five electric vehicles for use by employees.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The performance of the new EVs will now be monitored and used to plan how the company can use more electric vehicles in order to replace its entire fleet in the future.
