{"id":24286,"date":"2020-10-08T09:52:56","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T08:52:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=24286"},"modified":"2020-10-08T09:57:35","modified_gmt":"2020-10-08T08:57:35","slug":"three-uk-signs-fibre-optic-network-capacity-deal-with-colt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/10\/three-uk-signs-fibre-optic-network-capacity-deal-with-colt.html","title":{"rendered":"Three UK Signs Fibre Optic Network Capacity Deal with Colt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mobile operator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/threeuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Three UK<\/a> has today signed another fibre optic capacity deal, this time with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colt.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Colt Technology Services<\/a>, in order to help fuel their latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/5g\">5G<\/a> and existing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> based (mobile broadband) network. The deal will see Colt become a &#8220;<em>preferred provider of fibre backhaul connectivity<\/em>&#8221; for the operator.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The move should complement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/threeuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Three UK<\/a>&#8217;s existing fibre optic capacity deals with companies like <a href=\"https:\/\/ssetelecoms.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SSE Enterprise Telecoms<\/a> and, most recently, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/cityfibre\" target=\"_blank\">Cityfibre<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/09\/three-uk-extend-full-fibre-deal-with-cityfibre-to-fuel-5g-mobile.html\">here<\/a>). The latest partnership also forms part of Three&#8217;s wider \u00a32bn+ investment to help transform their network, &#8220;<em>giving a better customer experience [and] increasing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> speeds by up to 150%, as well as delivering the UK&#8217;s fastest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/5g\">5G<\/a> network<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Admittedly that claim of delivering the &#8220;<em>UK&#8217;s fastest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/5g\">5G<\/a> network<\/em>&#8221; only really holds up if it&#8217;s supported by good network coverage, as well as independent verification of such performance, and at present <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/threeuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Three UK<\/a> is still playing catch-up on that front; the extra backhaul will help.<\/p>\n<p>The recent decision to ban Huawei&#8217;s 5G kit from the UK may have also hurt the operator, which had previously banked on the Chinese firm being their sole supplier for related network kit.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Susan Buttsworth, COO of Three UK, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are investing significantly to transform our entire network experience, which will support our customers who use three times more data than the average UK consumer. Fibre backhaul is a vital part of a reliable network experience and our partnership with Colt will mean better connectivity for our customers across the UK.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Keri Gilder, CEO of Colt, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Colt has been readying itself for the future of mobile connectivity. We are excited that Three UK has recognised our capability, and has named us as a strategic partner for its 5G deployments.
