{"id":24878,"date":"2020-11-20T00:01:50","date_gmt":"2020-11-20T00:01:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=24878"},"modified":"2020-11-20T11:11:26","modified_gmt":"2020-11-20T11:11:26","slug":"isp-ee-uk-corrects-confusing-issue-with-fttp-broadband-checks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/11\/isp-ee-uk-corrects-confusing-issue-with-fttp-broadband-checks.html","title":{"rendered":"ISP EE UK Corrects Confusing Issue with FTTP Broadband Checks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mobile operator and UK ISP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> have this week updated the home broadband coverage checker for their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a>) based services, which since launch (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/09\/isp-ee-launches-uk-gigabit-fttp-home-broadband-packages.html\">here<\/a>) hasn&#8217;t recognised availability in every area where the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\">Openreach<\/a> network has already been deployed.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>At the time of launch in late September we remarked that &#8220;<em>none of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a> postcodes we tried in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a>&#8217;s checker returned a result for their full fibre plans,<\/em>&#8221; although we assumed this would be a short lived teething problem. Since then our readers have continued to highlight that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a>&#8217;s checker was not picking up on a lot of existing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a> deployments, which meant that the service could not easily be ordered.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bq2\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\">Openreach<\/a>&#8217;s FTTP network currently covers 3.5 million premises, but aims to reach 4.5 million by March 2021 and then 20 million by the &#8220;<em>mid \u2013 to late-2020s<\/em>&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/05\/bt-invest-12bn-on-fttp-broadband-for-20-million-uk-premises.html\">here<\/a>).<\/div>\n<p>We have been chasing this issue with EE since early November and are pleased to find that it&#8217;s finally been resolved. From what we&#8217;ve been able to gleam, EE&#8217;s initial FTTP launch was only made available to those with an existing <strong>Optical Network Terminal<\/strong> (ONT) installed (i.e. you either had to be living in a new build house with the ONT pre-installed or have previously had a working FTTP line before choosing EE for migration).<\/p>\n<p>Since most people taking FTTP today via existing properties will be getting it for the first time (i.e. no ONT installed), then the above situation meant that the bulk of those trying to order the service from EE would have been unable to do so. In order to correct for this EE have now added <strong>Managed Installs<\/strong>, which enables an engineer visit to build the final drop of fibre and ONT into your home (i.e. EE&#8217;s checker now returns positive results).<\/p>\n<p>As a result of this the setup and install fee for existing homes without an ONT is now \u00a3100 (it&#8217;s just \u00a350 if you have an existing ONT).
