{"id":25920,"date":"2021-02-13T00:01:27","date_gmt":"2021-02-13T00:01:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=25920"},"modified":"2021-02-12T11:16:54","modified_gmt":"2021-02-12T11:16:54","slug":"only-36-of-uk-parents-describe-their-broadband-as-highly-reliable","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/02\/only-36-of-uk-parents-describe-their-broadband-as-highly-reliable.html","title":{"rendered":"Only 36% of UK Parents Describe their Broadband as Highly Reliable"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new OnePoll survey of 2,000 UK adults, which was commissioned by rural full fibre ISP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/truespeed\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Truespeed<\/a>, has found that 67% of parents say they need &#8220;<em>fast broadband<\/em>&#8221; because they work from home, but only 36% claim to have a &#8220;<em>highly reliable<\/em>&#8221; home connection and 46% say they suffer &#8220;<em>broadband problems<\/em>&#8221; at least once a week.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Apparently, video calls shuddering, freezing or even dropping out entirely have been experienced by 24% of respondents, while 16% have also &#8220;<em>struggled to get their broadband to cooperate<\/em>&#8221; when sending an email.<\/p>\n<p>Against this backdrop, it&#8217;s noted that a fifth of parents have faced arguments after asking their children to stop using the broadband to help free up enough bandwidth for them to attend a work video call. Similarly, some 4 in 10 families now have more rows about internet use than about what to watch on TV. Others have rowed because someone tried to download a big file, making the internet slow for everyone else (13%).<\/p>\n<p>However, surveys like this often can&#8217;t or won&#8217;t delve deeper into the context of such issues, which usually ends up with &#8220;<em>broadband<\/em>&#8221; taking the blame for everything that could go wrong. The problem with this is that it may overlook other factors, such as slow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/wifi\">WiFi<\/a>, a poor or faulty router\/network setup or devices, problems with the remote internet server(s) and the consumer&#8217;s own choice of package (e.g. they chose a slower or cheaper plan, when faster options were available) etc.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Evan Wienburg, CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/truespeed\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Truespeed<\/a>, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Struggling with sub-standard broadband is a big challenge for parents up and down the country juggling working from home with their kids\u2019 online schooling. Everyone wants a piece of the broadband action so it\u2019s hardly surprising that unreliable connectivity and bandwidth issues are causing family rows. Our survey underlines the urgent need for WFH parents to be able to choose an ultra-fast, ultra-reliable full fibre broadband service that can handle whatever their family throws at it.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At this point it should go without saying that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/truespeed\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Truespeed<\/a> has a clear vested interest in trying to sell its own gigabit-capable broadband packages, so take this survey with a pint of salt.
