{"id":2610,"date":"2013-02-05T13:44:51","date_gmt":"2013-02-05T13:44:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=2610"},"modified":"2013-02-05T13:50:11","modified_gmt":"2013-02-05T13:50:11","slug":"ofcom-reports-uk-broadband-lines-total-21-37-million-in-q3-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/02\/ofcom-reports-uk-broadband-lines-total-21-37-million-in-q3-2012.html","title":{"rendered":"Ofcom Reports UK Broadband Lines Total 21.37 Million in Q3 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest <strong>Telecoms Market Data Tables Q3 2012<\/strong> update from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\">Ofcom<\/a> has revealed that the United Kingdom is now home to a total of <strong>21,371,000<\/strong> fixed line broadband ISP connections (excludes corporate lines), which is up by +264,000 over the previous quarter and includes 639,000 superfast fibre broadband (FTTx) lines.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that the regulators figures, which are shown in the table below (000\u2032s), tend to lag behind the latest results from ISPs. For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a> alone has just revealed that it had more than a million fibre optic based broadband (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttc\">FTTC<\/a> etc.) subscribers during Q4-2012 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/02\/uk-isp-bt-top-6-56-million-broadband-subscribers-as-fibre-access-grows.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>). Check out our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/review\/top10.php\" target=\"_blank\">Top 10 ISPs<\/a> page for the most recent totals.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"ngg-singlepic ngg-none\" alt=\"q3 2012 ofcom uk total broadband connections\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/wp-content\/gallery\/2013-internet-statistics\/q3_2012_ofcom_uk_total_broadband_connections.gif\" \/><\/div>\n<p>The data indicates that Non-LLU <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/adsl\">ADSL<\/a> services, such as those delivered via BTWholesale based broadband ISPs, has grown again but continues to follow a somewhat stagnant up-down-up-down pattern. Meanwhile cheaper unbundled \/ LLU <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/adsl\">ADSL<\/a> (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/bskyb\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Sky Broadband<\/a>), faster fibre optic \/ FTTx (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/btinfinityuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BTInfinity<\/a> etc.) and Cable (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vm\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Media<\/a>) based services have managed to maintain a more persistent level of growth.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of Q3 2012 there was a total of <strong>33.0 million analogue lines<\/strong> and ISDN channels, which is down from 223,000 (0.7%) at the end of Q3 2011. On top of that retail fixed voice telephony services generated <strong>\u00a32.1bn in revenues<\/strong>\u00a0for Q3 2012, which is down \u00a361m (2.8%)\u00a0vs Q3 2011 but roughly unchanged from the previous quarter.<\/p>\n<p>The total number of active Mobile Broadband subscribers also increased slightly to 5.007 million in Q3 2012 (up from 4.989m in Q2 2012).
