Openreach<\/a> (BT<\/a>) has signed a strategic collaboration with network integrator firm STL<\/a>, which will see the company provide optical cable solutions to help support the UK operator’s ongoing deployment of gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP<\/a>) based broadband ISP networks to 20 million UK premises by 2025-30.<\/p>\n

Under the deal STL will be responsible for delivering millions of kilometres of optical fibre cable to support the build over the next 3 years, which will build on and extend the existing technology and supply relationship between the two companies (this has so far spanned a period of 14 years).<\/p>\n

In particular Openreach<\/a> plans to take advantage of STL’s Opticonn<\/strong> solution \u2013 a specialised set of fibre, cable and interconnect offerings designed to drive performance improvements, including up to 30% faster installations.<\/p>\n

On top of that the operator will also gain access to Celesta <\/strong>\u2013 a high-density optical fibre cable with a capacity of up to 6,912 optical fibres. This design is said to be 26% slimmer compared to traditional loose tube cables, allowing 2000 metres of cable to be installed in under an hour (less plastic is also involved).<\/p>\n
