{"id":26787,"date":"2021-04-27T09:21:26","date_gmt":"2021-04-27T08:21:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=26787"},"modified":"2021-04-27T09:21:26","modified_gmt":"2021-04-27T08:21:26","slug":"london-uk-isp-g-network-to-train-255-new-full-fibre-engineers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/04\/london-uk-isp-g-network-to-train-255-new-full-fibre-engineers.html","title":{"rendered":"London UK ISP G.Network to Train 255 New Full Fibre Engineers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UK ISP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/gnetwork\" target=\"_blank\">G.Network<\/a>, which is building a 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a>) broadband network for homes and businesses across London, has launched a new recruitment and training programme that it hopes will tackle the shortage of qualified telecoms engineers by training up an extra workforce of 255 people this year.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>At present the provider has already managed to cover <strong>190,000 premises<\/strong> in the city (up from 160k in Dec 2020). On top of that they&#8217;ve since been boosted by a major fund raise from <strong>USS<\/strong> and <strong>Cube Infrastructure Managers<\/strong>, which will enable them to invest <strong>\u00a31bn<\/strong> in order to extend their &#8220;<em>full fibre<\/em>&#8221; network across 1.4 million premises in London (13 boroughs) over the next 5 years (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/12\/g-network-to-invest-1bn-in-london-gigabit-broadband-rollout.html\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Naturally such a large project will require significantly more engineers and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/gnetwork\" target=\"_blank\">G.Network<\/a> are keen to build up their own in-house team, hence today&#8217;s announcement. We should point out that the \u00a31bn funding deal envisaged the need to create <strong>1,250 new jobs<\/strong> (mostly engineers), thus the plan to add 255 engineers &#8211; those without any previous experience &#8211; will not be their only recruitment exercise (they also intend to recruit lots of qualified staff).<\/p>\n<p>Roughly half of the &#8220;<em>reskillships<\/em>&#8221; will be funded through the government&#8217;s Adult Education Budget (AEB), while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/gnetwork\" target=\"_blank\">G.Network<\/a> will fund the training of the rest.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Stephanie Ashmore, Chief Talent Officer of G.Network, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We knew early on that we would need to think differently about hiring people to work on our network. Whichever way we examined it, we knew that there weren\u2019t enough qualified people. So we decided to create them.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>G.Network has opened its own &#8220;<em>Fibre Academy<\/em>&#8221; facility to train engineers from scratch.
