{"id":26838,"date":"2021-04-30T00:01:35","date_gmt":"2021-04-29T23:01:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=26838"},"modified":"2021-04-30T06:36:29","modified_gmt":"2021-04-30T05:36:29","slug":"ee-uk-sees-lockdown-mobile-traffic-for-video-games-jump-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/04\/ee-uk-sees-lockdown-mobile-traffic-for-video-games-jump-18.html","title":{"rendered":"EE UK Sees Mobile Internet Traffic for Video Games Jump 31%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mobile operator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a>) has today reported that mobile broadband (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/5g\">5G<\/a>) usage related to internet video game traffic on their network has increased by 31% over the past six months, while the number of people enjoying mobile gaming also increase by 18% during the COVID-19 lockdown.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, more women (54%) than men (44%) were found to be picking up a mobile game for the first time and nearly a third of mobile gamers admit to having gamed while on the loo (it&#8217;s unclear if this was for a no.1, no.2 or both at the same time), while 15% have gamed when they should have been working. Meanwhile, 69% of mobile gamers said they were playing more during the lockdown.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bq2\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> The consumer responses stem from a OnePoll survey of 1,500 UK adults who play video games and own a smartphone, conducted in April 2021.<\/div>\n<p>A quarter of gamers said that spending time with friends and family was the number one reason they play games and 17% had plans to play with friends outdoors, while lockdown measures were still in place. The smartphone was also found to be the main gaming device for a quarter of British gamers. Finally, 76% said they would stream more high-quality games on their smartphone if they didn\u2019t have to worry about their data allowance.<\/p>\n<p>All of this is of course intended to help highlight <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a>&#8217;s launch of their <strong> Xbox Game Pass Ultimate<\/strong> add-on with unlimited data for gaming, which is an add-on that costs <strong>\u00a310 per month<\/strong> for existing Pay Monthly mobile customers (i.e. those with a smartphone bundle) and gives you access to enjoy over 100 Xbox games on your phone. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/britishtelecom\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BT<\/a> has already launched something similar for their broadband ISP customers (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/04\/bt-broadband-customers-can-add-xbox-game-pass-ultimate.html\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Alistair Wilson, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a>&#8217;s Director of Partnerships, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It\u2019s clear from the research that mobile gaming is on the rise, and it offers a whole host of benefits \u2013 not least being a really important way for people to keep in touch with friends and family during the lockdowns of the last 12 months.
