UK ISP FACTCO<\/a> (Ecodial) has today announced that they’re working with the York City Council in Yorkshire (England) to extend the reach of their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP<\/a>) broadband network to rural areas within York City region, starting with the communities of Wheldrake and Elvington.<\/p>\n

The inclusion of Wheldrake<\/strong> and Elvington<\/strong> shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to our readership, as we listed them last month in a separate article (here<\/a>). Apparently, the first phase of FACTCO’s full fibre build across this region will aim to cover over 2,200 premises<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

After those two communities, the ISP then expects to expand into Escrick, Riccall, Deighton and Crockey Hill, which are all much newer additions to their plan. Each Community Fibre Project will serve both residential and business properties, offering them the opportunity to upgrade their broadband to symmetric speeds of up to 1000Mbps.<\/p>\n

As before, all of these builds are being supported by funding from the Government’s gigabit broadband voucher scheme<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Lee Murphy, Local MD of FACTCO, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“After connecting The Shambles and elevating the potential of businesses on this historic street, we understand the importance of a good internet connection. Since 2019, the FACTCO team has been connecting residential areas across the UK, and York is one of the areas we wish to support. We\u2019re excited to work with Digital York to connect these communities and give them access to all that increased connectivity has to offer.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Councillor Nigel Ayre said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Fast reliable connectivity is no longer a luxury, it is an essential tool that we need to keep people connected for work, and with their communities. Over the last 18 months we have all seen how critical good connectivity is, and with the rollout of these services even further rural locations will no longer be behind more central areas in terms of connection speeds. We\u2019re committed to working with providers to ensure that residents in areas around York have the best connectivity possible.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Once live, customers can expect to pay from just \u00a324.99 inc. VAT per month for their entry-level 100Mbps tier on a 12-month contract term (free router), which rises to just \u00a344.99 for their top 1000Mbps plan.
