{"id":27807,"date":"2021-07-20T15:02:53","date_gmt":"2021-07-20T14:02:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=27807"},"modified":"2021-07-20T15:02:53","modified_gmt":"2021-07-20T14:02:53","slug":"vodafone-and-nokia-build-system-to-detect-network-problems","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/07\/vodafone-and-nokia-build-system-to-detect-network-problems.html","title":{"rendered":"Vodafone and Nokia Build System to Detect Network Problems"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mobile operator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vodafone<\/a> has announced that they&#8217;re rolling out a new machine learning (ML) algorithm across their UK and pan-European mobile network(s), which has been designed with support from Nokia&#8217;s Bell Labs R&amp;D division to &#8220;<em>detect and correct anomalies [in their network] before they impact customers<\/em>.&#8221;<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The new <strong>Anomaly Detection Service<\/strong> (ADS) autonomously detects if a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/5g\">5G<\/a> mobile cell site or area is showing &#8220;<em>out of the ordinary behaviour<\/em>&#8221; which, if allowed to go undetected for an extended period, could impact the quality of service to customers.<\/p>\n<p>The system &#8211; deployed via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vodafone<\/a>&#8217;s Cloud platform &#8211; can quickly identify issues such as network congestion, interference, unexpected latency, difficulty in handing calls between different cells or call setup failures. In short, this enables <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vodafoneuk\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Vodafone<\/a>&#8217;s engineers to address such issues at a quicker pace, ideally before customers start to complain.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to detecting anomalies, the algorithm also identifies patterns of change to allow Vodafone\u2019s operating companies to proactively address issues before they impact the customer. Once active, Vodafone expects the new service to support its ambition to automatically detect and address 80% of all anomalous mobile network issues and capacity demands.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Johan Wibergh, CTO of Vodafone, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are building an automated and programmable network that can respond quickly to our customers\u2019 needs. With machine learning, we can ensure a consistently high-quality performance that is as smart as the technology behind it.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Raghav Sahgal, Nokia\u2019s President of Cloud and Network Services, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are pleased to celebrate the first commercial deployment of our solution with Vodafone, running on the public cloud.
