AGAIN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Broadband and phone services have been disrupted for a second time in the Witchford area of Cambridgeshire (England) after thieves caused &#8220;<em>significant damage<\/em>&#8221; by cutting through one of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\">Openreach<\/a>&#8217;s secure boxes. But it&#8217;s unclear what, if anything, was actually stolen as a result of this attack.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Last month, around 1,000 premises suffered a protracted service outage after criminal scum ripped up and stole some of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\">Openreach<\/a>\u2019s underground copper cables (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2021\/12\/cable-theft-knocks-out-broadband-for-1000-premises-around-ely.html\">here<\/a>). The operator has confirmed that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridgeindependent.co.uk\/news\/thieves-leave-witchford-residents-without-internet-and-landl-9233413\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">latest attack<\/a> took place &#8220;<em>in the same vicinity as an earlier cable theft in December<\/em>.&#8221; As usual, the perpetrators have no regard for the significant harm they cause.<\/p>\n<p>A Spokesperson for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\">Openreach<\/a> said (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridgeindependent.co.uk\/news\/thieves-leave-witchford-residents-without-internet-and-landl-9233413\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cambridgeindependent<\/a>): &#8220;<em>We\u2019re investigating and have made arrangements for engineers to be on site first thing [today] to start repairs. We\u2019re very sorry for this loss of service, and we\u2019re working to get residents reconnected as quickly as possible. It\u2019s really disappointing that local people are once again bearing the brunt of criminal behaviour. We\u2019d ask anyone who noticed anything suspicious to contact the police<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, it&#8217;s not unusual for gangs to target the same area more than once, which is a trend that we&#8217;ve seen before. Openreach often offers a small reward (usually \u00a31,000) for information that results in the arrest and conviction of those responsible, although it\u2019s unclear whether that applies to this incident.
