At the start of this year we noted that Netomnia<\/a> were set to extend their UK rollout of a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP<\/a>) broadband ISP network to more of Scotland, with Hamilton being one of their targets (here<\/a>). Today the operator has confirmed that they will invest \u00a321m on the town’s build for “almost<\/em>” 70,000 premises.<\/p>\n

The operator, which last year secured \u00a3123m<\/strong> of funding (here<\/a>), has so far covered around 90,000 premises<\/strong> across a number of towns in England, Wales and Scotland (e.g. Ashford, Barrow-in-Furness, Boston, Bridgend, Canterbury, Cheltenham, Durham and many more). The company’s ultimate goal is to reach 1 million UK homes and businesses by the end of 2023, which is very ambitious for such a timescale.<\/p>\n

NOTE: <\/strong>The provider is teamed with civil engineering firm KN Circet<\/strong> on the build.<\/div>\n

Officially speaking, this project represents only Netomnia<\/a>’s second deployment in Scotland after their \u00a312m build to cover 40,000 premises in the South Lanarkshire town of East Kilbride<\/strong>. But their future rollout plan also looks set to catch parts of Irvine, Coatbridge, Cumbernauld, Falkirk, Livingston, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Dalkeith.<\/p>\n

The service itself is typically supplied to consumers via UK ISP partner YouFibre<\/strong><\/a>, which offers unlimited usage, symmetrical speeds, a Wi-Fi router, free installation and 24\/7 UK based support. Customers then pay from \u00a322 per month on an 18-month term for their unlimited 50Mbps package, which rises to \u00a340 if you want their top 900Mbps plan. At present, there\u2019s also a special offer that gives the first 3 months of service for free.<\/p>\n

Alan O’Prey, MD at Netomnia, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“As we build on our journey to connect as many towns and cities as possible with full fibre capabilities, being able to do so in a timely and non-invasive way remains high on the agenda for Netomnia. Hamilton has a rich heritage of impressive and historic buildings. By using existing underground ducting and overhead infrastructure, we are able to provide the technology swiftly and in a way that minimises disruption.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

We should point out that Virgin Media<\/a> has already covered most of Hamilton with their own gigabit-capable broadband network, while Openreach<\/a> also has some FTTP<\/a> in parts of the town and their local build isn’t yet listed as having completed (although the area seems to have been skipped on their future rollout map).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
