{"id":30171,"date":"2022-02-17T10:52:01","date_gmt":"2022-02-17T10:52:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=30171"},"modified":"2022-02-17T10:52:01","modified_gmt":"2022-02-17T10:52:01","slug":"cityfibres-full-fibre-network-to-fuel-sunderlands-5g-small-cells","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2022\/02\/cityfibres-full-fibre-network-to-fuel-sunderlands-5g-small-cells.html","title":{"rendered":"CityFibre&#8217;s Full Fibre Network to Fuel Sunderland&#8217;s 5G Small Cells"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Sunderland City Council (SCC) and BAI Communications have today chosen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/cityfibre\" target=\"_blank\">CityFibre<\/a>&#8217;s new &#8220;<em>full fibre<\/em>&#8221; broadband and Ethernet network in the city to provide data capacity for a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/5g\">5G<\/a> small cell mobile network, which aims to provide a platform for local business growth and innovation.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Last year the SCC announced that they&#8217;d awarded BAI a 20-year strategic partnership to, among other things, build and operate a new &#8220;<em>private<\/em>&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/5g\">5G<\/a> <strong>small cell<\/strong> mobile network across parts of the city &#8211; based on a &#8220;<em>neutral host model<\/em>&#8221; &#8211; by <strong>Summer 2022<\/strong>. The aim of this is to serve sectors including manufacturing and logistics, education and social care.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bq2\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> A Neutral Host system allows a third-party to build the infrastructure, which mobile operators can harness, as opposed to using operator-specific kit and services.<\/div>\n<p>At the same time we know that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/cityfibre\" target=\"_blank\">CityFibre<\/a>, which also has a <strong>Dark Fibre<\/strong> style network present in the area, is separately investing \u00a362 million to rollout a new gigabit-capable <strong>Fibre-to-the-Premise<\/strong>s (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a>) broadband ISP network to serve local homes and businesses across the coastal city.<\/p>\n<p>Suffice to say, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/cityfibre\" target=\"_blank\">CityFibre<\/a>&#8217;s network has now been tapped to help supply the data capacity for the new small cell network.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Jason Legget, Regional Partnership Director, CityFibre, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re thrilled to be working with BAI and Sunderland City Council, who have truly embraced the potential of Full Fibre, with a robust plan in place to become a genuine UK leader in smart city technology.<\/p>\n<p>At CityFibre, we design Full Fibre networks capable of serving everything from homes and businesses to mobile sites and community spaces.
