{"id":3027,"date":"2013-04-10T00:22:56","date_gmt":"2013-04-09T23:22:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=3027"},"modified":"2013-04-09T15:46:23","modified_gmt":"2013-04-09T14:46:23","slug":"170000-london-uk-homes-to-help-test-for-4g-tv-interference-woes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/04\/170000-london-uk-homes-to-help-test-for-4g-tv-interference-woes.html","title":{"rendered":"170,000 London UK Homes to Help Test for 4G TV Interference Woes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/at800.tv\/\" target=\"_blank\">at800.tv<\/a><\/strong> (DMSL), which was setup by UK mobile operators to support homes that could lose their digital terrestrial TV services due to interference from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> (LTE) based Mobile Broadband services in the <strong>800MHz<\/strong> spectrum band, has announced that its first major urban test will take place in <strong>South East London<\/strong> from <strong>15th April 2013<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The groups first phase of testing, which focused on 22,000 homes in rural <strong>Cradley Heath<\/strong> and <strong>Rowley Regis<\/strong> (England\u2019s West Midlands), found that just 15 households suffered reception problems and that was well below the official forecast of 120 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/04\/4g-mobile-broadband-at-800mhz-likely-to-cause-fewer-tv-problems.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>). Practically all of the related issues were resolved by installing a simple <strong>filter to block the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> signals<\/strong> from reaching TV tuners.<\/p>\n<p>By comparison the <strong>second phase of testing<\/strong> will focus on <strong>170,000 homes in urban areas<\/strong>, specifically parts of Greenwich, Lewisham, Southwark and Tower Hamlets in south east London. As before at800 is asking viewers in the area to report problems with their TV reception from Monday 15th April.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Simon Beresford-Wylie, CEO of at800, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>These larger tests are essential to help improve our forecast model and the way we\u2019ll tackle potential issues caused by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> at 800MHz. We are extremely grateful to viewers in south east London for their help with these important tests<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Homes likely to be affected will be contacted directly through the post about the pilot, which is likely to exclude those that use cable or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/satellite\">satellite<\/a> TV for their primary viewing.
