The company already has an established partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/grainconnect.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Grain<\/a> (Grain Connect) for such sites.<\/p>\n<p>The new expansion plan was revealed as part of the company&#8217;s request for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\/consultations-and-statements\/category-3\/code-powers-energy-assets-fibre-networks-limited\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Code Powers<\/strong><\/a> from <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-133 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"ofcom\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.ofcom.org.uk\">Ofcom<\/a>, which are often sought to help speed-up deployments of new fibre optic infrastructure and cut costs, not least by reducing the number of licences needed for street works. It can also be used to facilitate access to run new fibre via <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-46 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/openreach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"openreach\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.openreach.co.uk\">Openreach<\/a>\u2019s existing cable ducts and telegraph poles (PIA).<\/p>\n<p>The focus of all this is still confined to newly built developments.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Code Powers Statement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The applicant intends to adopt systems of telecommunications infrastructure across the whole of Great Britain, which have been constructed by either other companies within the wider company group or third party specialist infrastructure providers. This will include infrastructure which it says can be utilised for ultra-fast broadband, <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-106 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/voip\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"voip\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/jargon\/jargon_detail.php?VoIP---Voice-over-IP-98\">VoIP<\/a> telephony, and TV on demand. It anticipates that it will provide wholesale access of its network to retail telecoms providers to supply broadband services to residential and business customers.<\/p>\n<p>The Applicant already provides gas and energy to new housing and industrial developments and proposes to add broadband access to the services it offers to property developers.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>On the surface, this sounds a bit different from the &#8220;<em>asset ownership model<\/em>&#8221; that they currently employ for fibre, and suggests that Energy Assets might be looking to maintain more control over the <a class=\"shortlink shortlink-110 shortlink-chref\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"fttp\" data-chref=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/broadband_fibre_optic.php\">FTTP<\/a> they build via a more accessible wholesale model.
