{"id":3115,"date":"2013-04-23T09:58:49","date_gmt":"2013-04-23T08:58:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=3115"},"modified":"2013-04-23T09:59:23","modified_gmt":"2013-04-23T08:59:23","slug":"isp-ee-uk-nudges-past-694k-home-broadband-and-318k-4g-customers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/04\/isp-ee-uk-nudges-past-694k-home-broadband-and-318k-4g-customers.html","title":{"rendered":"ISP EE UK Nudges Past 694K Home Broadband and 318K 4G Customers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The latest Q1-2013 financial results from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> (Orange UK and T-Mobile) have revealed that their fixed line Home Broadband subscriber base increased by just +1,000 in the quarter to <strong>total 694,000<\/strong>, while their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> (LTE) based mobile subscribers grew from zero to 318,000 in the first five months since its launch.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>However the slow rise in Home Broadband subscribers could potentially be masking a much more positive position. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> had previously added +9,000 new customers in Q3-2012 but it saw this plummet by -29,000 during Q4-2012, which followed the controversial scrapping of their old \u201c<strong><em>FREE broadband FOR LIFE<\/em><\/strong>\u201d deal in October 2012 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2012\/10\/orange-uk-scraps-free-broadband-for-life-deal-for-mobile-users.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>But by forcing the most economically unsustainable customers off their platform, or on to their own line rental service, then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/eebroadband\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">EE<\/a> might now <strong>expect to see stronger growth<\/strong> from this point onwards. At least it will if they can drag themselves away from their old (Orange UK) reputation for slow speeds and poor support.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong>Neal Milsom, EE&#8217;s CFO, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Today\u2019s results are in-line with our expectations, and we are making good progress focusing on high value segments. We\u2019re announcing 318,000 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/4g\">4G<\/a> customers after just five months of trading, strong postpaid net adds and continued growth in our underlying average revenue per user. EE also recently announced work to double their 4G speeds (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/04\/ee-uk-boost-4g-mobile-broadband-capacity-for-top-speeds-of-80mbps.html\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Overall the operator recorded <strong>service revenue of \u00a31,422m<\/strong> in Q1-2013 (\u00a35,953m in Q4-2012).
