Scottish ISP Lothian Broadband<\/a>, which is currently building a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP<\/a> \/ XGS-PON) network to cover 70,000 homes and businesses across rural parts of East and Mid Lothian, has just added 3 new locations to their rollout plan for 2022 – Gullane, East Linton and Pathhead.<\/p>\n

The provider originally began building a new full fibre network to cater for the East Lothian village of Gifford<\/strong>, but they’re also building into Longniddry<\/strong> and the East Lothian village of Pencaitland<\/strong>. Since then they’ve secured a \u00a320m boost from the Scottish National Investment Bank (SNIB) – this is on top of \u00a35m from existing shareholders (details<\/a>).<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> Lothian Broadband plans to invest \u00a375m to cover 70,000+ premises in the “fibre gap<\/em>” of Scotland\u2019s rural communities and small towns by around the end of 2026.<\/div>\n

Gullane will now be the provider’s next location, with work on the 1,600-premise build starting in July and the first customers being connected in September; the East Linton and Pathhead builds will start shortly after, with the entire network builds across all locations being completed in 2022.<\/p>\n

Gavin Rodgers, CEO at Lothian Broadband Group, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Our latest full fibre broadband investments will give local businesses and residents access to ultrafast broadband that is not only as fast as anywhere else in the UK but also reliable and affordable.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Customers on their fibre network typically pay from \u00a329.99 for an unlimited 100Mbps (symmetric) service on a 12-month term, which rises to \u00a359.99 for their top 900Mbps gigabit tier. Some other areas are also being serviced by the provider’s Fixed Wireless Access<\/strong> (FWA) network, but that only offers download speeds of up to 35Mbps.<\/p>\n

The ISP also reports that it has developed a new range of even cheaper 24-month term packages, but at the time of writing we couldn’t see these listed on their website.<\/p>\n
