Nokia has expanded their relationship with UK ISP Hyperoptic<\/a>, which is deploying a new gigabit speed “full fibre<\/em>” (FTTP<\/a>\/B) broadband network to serve 2 million UK homes by the end of 2023. Under the agreement, Nokia will now also upgrade the provider’s IP core network with more flexibility and capacity.<\/p>\n

Under the deal, Hyperoptic<\/a> will deploy Nokia’s 800GE<\/strong> (Gigabit Ethernet) capable 7750 SR-s<\/a> routers, which are powered by its FP5 routing silicon (processor) – this should provide plenty of capacity, while consuming less power per bit.<\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong> KKR acquired a majority (75%) equity stake in Hyperoptic<\/a> during 2019 and the operator has also secured \u00a3600m in debt to fund its growth.<\/div>\n

“FP5 allows the delivery of more than three times more capacity in the same space and power envelope as the Nokia FP4 hardware<\/em>“, said the announcement. Hyperoptic currently uses Nokia’s older FP4, but FP5 and FP4 can concurrently operate at line rate in the same SR-s system.<\/p>\n

The provider’s deployment of Nokia’s FP5 technology is understood to be one of the first in Europe and should help them to meet rising capacity demands as their network expands (they’ve already covered over 900,000 premises – mostly in UK cities and towns).<\/p>\n
