{"id":32531,"date":"2022-10-11T16:35:05","date_gmt":"2022-10-11T15:35:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=32531"},"modified":"2022-10-11T16:35:05","modified_gmt":"2022-10-11T15:35:05","slug":"new-survey-finds-frustration-with-uk-broadband-isp-speeds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2022\/10\/new-survey-finds-frustration-with-uk-broadband-isp-speeds.html","title":{"rendered":"New Survey Finds Frustration with UK Broadband ISP Speeds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new Opinium survey of 2,000 UK adults, which was commissioned by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uswitch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Uswitch<\/a>, has found that 25% of respondents &#8220;<em>regularly fail<\/em>&#8221; to receive the broadband internet speeds they pay for and 7% claim to never get the promised performance. But 42% also admit to not knowing what speed their package is supposed to deliver.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Confusion over broadband speeds is of course nothing new in this market, and indeed the survey notes that only 17% were aware that advertised speeds from an ISP are based on the broadband speed delivered directly to your router, rather than via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/wifi\">WiFi<\/a>. Meanwhile, around 46% of those who claim not to be receiving the speeds they paid for have asked for compensation from their provider.<\/p>\n<div class=\"bq2\"><strong>NOTE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\">Ofcom<\/a>&#8217;s latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2019\/02\/new-ofcom-code-of-practice-for-uk-broadband-isp-speeds-starts-today.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Broadband Speed Code<\/a> gives ISPs 1 month to resolve significant speed problems and if they fail then customers can walk away, penalty-free. But only a few providers are members of the latest code.<\/div>\n<p>Finally, 9% are said to have considered leaving their ISP because they don\u2019t receive the speeds they feel they should, while 21% would be willing to pay more for faster broadband (some good news for full fibre providers, perhaps). But we should point out that a lot of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a> providers now have packages that will give you significantly more speed for the same or less money than older <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttc\">FTTC<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/adsl\">ADSL<\/a> based packages, provided such networks are available in your area.<\/p>\n<p>We suspect that a lot of the remaining frustration with poor speeds probably also stems from those on older copper line based broadband services, since modern full fibre networks are generally much more reliable on this front. On the other hand, even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a> networks have their caveats (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2020\/12\/why-buying-gigabit-broadband-doesnt-always-deliver-1gbps.html\"><strong>Why Buying Gigabit Broadband Doesn&#8217;t Always Deliver 1Gbps<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new Opinium survey of 2,000 UK adults, which was commissioned by Uswitch, has found that 25% of respondents &#8220;regularly fail&#8221; to receive the broadband internet speeds they pay for and 7% claim to never get the promised performance.
