{"id":32664,"date":"2022-10-22T08:39:59","date_gmt":"2022-10-22T07:39:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/?p=32664"},"modified":"2022-10-24T14:01:17","modified_gmt":"2022-10-24T13:01:17","slug":"wightfibre-highlights-its-100mbps-essential-broadband-social-tariff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/2022\/10\/wightfibre-highlights-its-100mbps-essential-broadband-social-tariff.html","title":{"rendered":"WightFibre Highlights its 100Mbps Essential Broadband Social Tariff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Broadband ISP <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/wightfibre\">WightFibre<\/a>, which operates a full fibre (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/fttp\">FTTP<\/a>) network across the Isle of Wight &#8211; just off the South Coast of Hampshire in England, has revealed that it too has a social tariff for those on benefits, which will give you an unlimited 100Mbps (symmetric) speed for just \u00a316.50 per month with a PAYG phone service (usually \u00a324.95).<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The provider claims that their &#8216;<em>Essential Broadband<\/em>&#8216; tariff has actually been &#8220;<em>available for some time<\/em>&#8220;, although this is the first time we&#8217;ve heard about it and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/ofcom\" target=\"_blank\">Ofcom<\/a> has never mentioned it before either. As such, we assume that Wight Fibre, like so many other ISPs, has not been terribly effective at actively promoting the existence of such plans. We certainly couldn&#8217;t see any obvious promotion on their main website or product pages (excluding the related press release).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/wightfibre\">WightFibre<\/a> has also said they&#8217;re the &#8220;<em>first [ISP] to implement<\/em>&#8221; the new service run by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), which allows them to verify &#8211; with a customers\u2019 permission &#8211; that they are in receipt of Universal or Pension Credit and therefore eligible for the social tariff. We had thought that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/go\/vm\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Virgin Media<\/a> (VMO2) were the first, but they were just the first to mention it, rather than actively use it.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"bq1\"><p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ispreview.co.uk\/index.php\/link\/wightfibre\">WightFibre<\/a> CEO, John Irvine, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;WightFibre\u2019s \u2018because we care\u2019 ethos means we are committed to making full-fibre broadband available to all sections of our Island community not just to those who can afford it. Our Essential Broadband Package is no slimmed down offering. It is exactly the same package as our Residential Full-Fibre 100\/100 package.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The provider states that their package is on a monthly rolling contract with no minimum commitment. &#8220;<em>Anyone on Universal or Pension Credit can apply through our Online Order process on www.wightfibre.com\/order or by calling our friendly Island-based Sales team on 01983 240 240<\/em>,&#8221; states the announcement.
